Treatment of Americans

I have researching several spanish countries for retirement. My gut is telling me that some countries like Ecuador take advantage of retirees from other countries. Also concerned about crime in these countries which is a reason I want to leave the U.S.
How does Spain accept newbies? Americans? Do real estate agents, taxis etc try to rip people off? (I am blue eyed and an obvious American) I personally love spanish people and lived in Spain/ Univ of valencia in the 70's and loved Spain. Is it still a great place regarding warmth of other nationalities?
My gut tells me Spain is best.

Spain is the best, most Spanish speaking country's have nothing in common with modern Spain and i have lived here for 25 yrs. Then it was a culture shock i reveled  in and had the opportunity of watching and living in a growing and new democracy.
They can not get away with the ripp off idea any more its long gone .One thing to remember....city's are city's ware ever you are
I have met many Americans ,and a host of other country's that have retired here over the years and never heard one really complain ,plenty little moans but we all stay

have a good one
