Hello to all. I am opening a business in KL (will have a partner who is Malaysian). I am wondering what opinions of MIDA are and if they are good to work through? Also what do you think the best approach is for work visa for myself and wife?
Thank you in advance.

Nemodot

If you wife is Malaysian why she need a work permit?

You should get a long term social visit pass. (ltsvp) as technically you no longer can get a work permit as married ti a Malaysian.

Malaysia once you have that you can have it endorsed to work if you have a job offer. So offer yourself a job lol

nemodot, i think hes referring to a malaysian business partner, not that his wife is malaysian :-)

vv68

That is correct, my wife I not Malaysian. My business partner is.

carlyle1979...thanks
its so difficult for some to comprehend what people are trying to say

I guess I have to stop drinking when I am on here!

My wife, my cat and I are not from Malaysia.

Nemodot

Westerners usually refer to wives as partners as pc. Wife is Stone age reference to wife as property of man lol so misread his pm

I strongly reccomend working in Malaysia for a year or two before doing business here especially with a government body as can be quite a culture shock. Business practices are not pc. Malaysian businesses that tried to do business in America fail as the way to win a contract is different (!)

eg one friend here sold doors for condos. Real price to make profit was 100 rm. Sold for 300 rm. She told me how boss carried a large bag of cash....

company tries to sell in USA. In USA they want the cheapest door. Not the most expensive.... Different way to do business. So failed. Actually seen many large British companies run into trouble in USA as well. One major engineering client I once had quoted large contracts for building projects. They won. Project on cut throat margin.

They then had a variation order. British company bills client. USA client shocked as in USA not usual practice... Most variation orders absorbed into original quote.

Results massive losses and British company retreat to UK licking wounds and big losses.

Just look at m&s selling British sandwiches in Paris.... Dumb!

Cross cultural business is hard!

Nemodot,

Why do you live in Kl? You are so negative and make it sound bad, how come you do not move home?

There must be a reason you live there.

good question vv68 thanks

I am glad to hear some positive things about KL.
I am excited to go and will be there next week to check things out.
So far I have only heard how bad it is there so thank you for some positive feedback.
