Young boys as camel jockeys used to be common in the Middle East until the international outcry brought it to a halt.

Thank you very much for coming to Riyadh :P

davidmsummers

I live in Al-Kharj (about an hour's drive south of Riyadh).

I've had a good time the last couple weekends getting into the desert.

Two weeks ago I rode a camel and drank some of its fresh milk.

Just this past weekend I went hunting spiny-tailed lizard that my roommate and I subsequently ate for dinner.

I suggest you make some Saudi friends and let them entertain you.  You might get to do some weird and memorable stuff.

Saudi guys I know told me they drink camel's milk because it makes them more virile :unsure  They also told me you'll have diarrhea for a day or two the first time you drink it!

As for David's suggestions, they only work for guys.  Female expats are not going to find too many Saudi female friends who are out riding camels and hunting spiny-tailed lizards.

Don't want to be a party popper but see the below:

Raw Milk and Serious Illness
Symptoms and Advice

Symptoms of food borne illness include:

Vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain
Flu like symptoms such as fever, headache, and body ache

While most healthy people will recover from an illness caused by harmful bacteria in raw milk - or in foods made with raw milk - within a short period of time, some can develop symptoms that are chronic, severe, or even life-threatening.

Yeah, that might be true but if we stick to all "advice" we don't appreciate the real life.

Raw cow milk tastes bizarre but is so good! Same with raw camel milk. Plus, it is part of the Saudi culture so we've got to try it :)

hmm sometimes loving something costs too much right...

Yeah, yeah ... I think it was my comment about virility that convinced you

I grew up with my first years in the fresh cow's milk, and I like it so far. I tried raw milk a camel here and there is not much difference in the taste, just lighter (more ice-white) color and more fat.
And no any symptoms.
