Guys,
I've just moved here last week. And so far the only easy thing to do is finding a mall and places to eat. Food here is quite better than Dubai. Anyhow, what I was wondering is that given I hardly know anyone, maybe some kind hearted soul out there can help me with the following:
1. Where can one play squash and are there any martial arts studios (kick boxing).
2. Other than the Dirab golf course (which is a bit of a drive). Is there anything closer?
3. Whats the best place for dessert in riyadh?
4. Can I pay someone to show me around Riyadh?
5. Whats the best billiards and snooker club?
6. Whats the best way of learning arabic? (I know basics, want to improve conversational)
I'll limit myself to just these.

Hello,
Hope this finds you well.
I know how you would feel as you recently moved to Riyadh and I would like to offer you answers for your questions.
1. You can play squash at Al Khozama Sports Center, this is sports center of Alkhozama Hotel which is located in the heart of Olaya road few blocks away from Faisalia Tower. Im not sure they offer kickboxing courts there.
2. Golf court at Arizona Compound, it is nearby the airport
3. You have to try Saad Addin and Al Hallab Palace. Both have variety of western desserts.
4. thats possible, you have to call any tours desk at any 5 star hotel asking for a city tour.
5. Tahliya street have a couple of very fine billiards and snookers, forgot the names though
6. Best way to learn Arabic is to get as many arabic speaking friends as you can. They must be willing not to speak english with you. You can also contact your embassy and consult them whether they have arabic learning courses or do they recommend any educational instit. where you can get urself enrolled.
Tks and Welcome to Riyadh
Waleed
Thanks a ton willie28,
I managed to play a round of golf at Dirab Golf course on Friday. The championship course is pretty good. I'll try the Arizona this weekend.
Thank you for the information on the rest of questions.
Future seems brighter in Riyadh than I thought
Hi,

Hello,
Hope this finds you well. Can I ask where this is near or a grid reference on a map as I looked on my map and couldn't find it? Is it near a well known landmark in the area?
all the best
Tom
Tom, I'm over at Tahlia. This is the unofficial name. The landmark for this street would be Localizer mall, I think.
Anyhow, I'll give you a shout later today and we could decide where and when to play.
Anybody else interested to join please feel free...

Hi QQureshi,
thanks for the reply. Do you play snooker or pool or both? Feel free to give me a call when you get a chance today or whenever although I'll be playing football at the Siemens' German compound later today.
BTW, where are you from and what are you doing here in Riyadh if you don't mind me asking? I'm a technical trainer working for a German and Saudia company here.
best regards
Tom

Hi there
Is there anybody practicing kickboxing/boxing here in Riyadh?
I'm a newbie in boxing though, I did that with a professional trainer in Dubai for some 4 months, m currently out of touch for last 3 months, and need to catch up fast.
I need a partner, or a trainer(if somebody is interested to join) or if somebody could help me telling some training facility where I can start over.

There is an another 18 hole championship golf course about 20kms north of the city called Riyadh Golf course. i play there once. The most common membership program cost SAR2,000 for the year then SAR100 per round.
I play there once week usually on a Friday morning. Access used to be a desert road but now tarmacadam all the way.

Hi,
How does this compare to Dirab with regard to facilities and the actual course?
Thanks
I have been to Dirab but never played there. Dirab is "greener" with wide fairways and for those that play "serious" golf it is seen as a much easier course than RGG. RGG is challenging. I am on a 28 handicap but get around ok and don't consider a difficult course to play. More water to contend with at RGG.
Facilities are good with a massive clubhouse (much bigger than Dirab) containing small "bar" (no alcohol of course) to ones side of the the main dining room. Downstairs full clean locker room (rarely used) and showers, games room, gym, ladies spa, sauna etc.
I live near the top of the Northern ring so RGG is closer than Dirab for me.
There is also a 9 hole (all par 3's) at the Intercontinental hotel. Played there once and did not like it much. Prefer nice long holes and plenty of space.
I have photos of RGG at

Hi jambo... I'm playing in RGC too and with 28 hdcp. I hope we can play one time. I'll be playing tomorrow so hoping to see you there.
cheers,

they all benefit financially from such escapades, thats why Islamic Shariah Law allows only 1/4 (if they have no kids) or 1/8 (if they have kids) of the estate to the wife of a deceased.

Which works if your family is going to take care of you for life. But since this isn't the way it happens in the West, the wife needs to get what she can (and partners typically get 1/2!).
