A German and a foreigner can marry in Germany, but the buerocratic requirements are very complicated.
You need documents from your home country that might not exist there (e.g. the "Ehefähigkeitszeugnis" - a document certifying that you are eligible to marry) and they all need to be officially translated into German. It generally takes about 6 months and several thousand Euros to prepare the formalities.
If you want to go this route, your husband-to-be should start the process by asking for the list of requirements at his Standesamt (registry of marriages) and Ausländeramt (foreign residents office).
Many mixed couples prefer to marry elsewhere and get it acknowledged in Germany, which is much easier.

Its very simple my sister.....just let your man go to the germans Office of Marriages and devorce to get full information as in german the required documents to get married differs from one state to the other..............What i know as i got married here...you need to have a bachelor certificat not older than 6 months and your birth certificate and both translated from a recognised intitution like Goethe Intitute...From your coutry of origine you have to apply a married visa afer your man to be has provided you with an official invitation letter from the government of germany.....good luck..

depending on which City you live in, go to your local court and tell them you Need the document that says you are single. they will have it written and send you to the Courts typist to get it done with all your info,,,Name Age and all. i think the Standard fee is 500 naira but you can be asked to give more. but the irst Thing you Need to do is get your fiancee to find outthe requirement from the local foreign Office in the City he lives in. every City is basically the same but some are more do able than the others. ist two years since your post but i just wanted to comment...hope everything worked out fr you two
