Most memorable moments in a foreign country

Hi y'all, which is the most memorable moment you have ever had in a foreign country. For me it was when i visited Tanzania and they had the most traffic police men who kept stopping us at highways for driving above 50km/hr.How ridiculous is that we wondered how we were supposed to arrive at our destination which was  already 1003 km away at the moment. For a while we would see the sign boards and ignore them and get caught in the act,get fined and say we were foreign and slap us with a mild fine but after we got out of the boundaries we felt free and went back to racing. Tanzania has good infrastructure we traveled as far as Mbeya by road and had a few stops all the way from Nairobi....so next time you go to a foreign country be sure not to speed..:)

The most memorable moment for me was when I saw for the fist time the famous temple Al Khazneh in the ancient city Petra in Jordan after a walk in the narrow Siq. It took my breath away.

In my years of travelling and working in many different countries I have many memorable moments.

One that comes to mind was when I was living in a national park on the border of Northern Uganda and South Sudan. I was working on a highway construction project.

I awoke one morning to find a herd of elephants passing my house only 3 metres from my front door.I stood and watched as 40 of them, including babies wandered past totally ignoring me as the headed down to the Nile to cross over to the other side of the park.

One of my most memorable experiences was being invited for tea into a hut smaller than my current office cubicle, inhabitated by a family with several kids.
This happened to me twice, in the slums of India and Indonesia. In both cases the people were very friendly, despite a lack of common language, and refused my offer to pay for the tea in the end.
It showed me that a big heart does not need a big wallet!

August 10, 1977 arrived in London at the hotel near the airport.  My family and I were on our way to US as immigrants and for the first time in our life we saw lit billboards advertisements. So many colors and such bright lights, made us dizzy.  Compare London with Romania in 1977 and I think we were lucky we did not loose our mind seen such a site!

I have many memories from my travels.

The one that comes to mind when I was 16 years old the family went on vacation to the Bahamas for several weeks.

As the authority figures were on the beach and occupied. I asked the bartender what the drinking age was in the Bahamas.

His response,"Hay mon you old enough to hold a glass?"

That is when I learned about "Bahama Mamma's".;)
