Possibility of Assisted Living

Post new topic

From all of the experience of those reading I am wondering if anyone would know if there would be an Assisted-Living Facility in Belize for my father who is 87.  He is in great health but needs someone to watch over him.  The reason I am so interested in Belize is the English language that would most likely be spoken in such a facility, if there even is one in the country.  I am not talking about just a plain-old nursing home.  He doesn't need that at all.  Because of his VA benefit rules I must have him stay in an actual care facility.  He is not allowed to rent a house and then pay for the care separately.

Bottom Line: I know that facilities like this are more of an American thing so I'm just trying to find out if these exist at all in Belize.

Thanks for reading, Alan

Hi regarding the care for your father, the facility you spoke about does not exist in Belize. There are a few homes for elderly but they are not up to the standard you are used to. Belize is a developing country, many people still live in extended family network or some relative or neighbor will come in and look after their older folks. You could hire a nurse or care worker to look after your father at your home but you said that would not be allowed, how would they find out anyway? best regards..

Thank you so much for letting me know what the situation is like in Belize.

The VA sends out a representative once a year to do a review on the actual facility and the resident.  Yes, they would gladly travel to Belize as well.  I'm sure the Reps fight over who gets to travel to the exotic locales!

I wonder if I could rent part of an apartment/condo building and start such a "facility".  Then it would be legal for any Vets to be cared for in such a way.  What do you think about that?  Do you think many people would be interested if a facility like this was to be started?

Thank you so much for commenting!

Well you never know you may be onto something :), however you would need quite a few people to make it viable, plus the organisation of it. However Belize can be difficult if people suffer from multiple health problems and need specific treatment. Nothing ventured nothing gained! Best of luck anyway. regards
