Growing food in Saigon

Garden space is hard to come by in the city. You can use pots but will need to water a couple times a day if they are outside as the sun/heat will dry pots out quickly.

If you have enough space such as a rooftop or patio have you thought about a hydroponic or aquaponic system? They would work great in the city as they are soilless. If you don't know what they are, Google it. Very interesting.

As for what plants to grow; tomatos, herbs, pepers,  melons, cucumbers, and leafy greens would do ok for vegetables. Fruits are a little more difficult because they are mostly grown on trees and need more space and a lot of time. However, strawberries would do well.  Just depends on your lighting/location of the plants.

If you are interested in selling you produce for a low price, i will be interested in buying. Mainly because it may be organic, and I dont trust the other produce in vietnam

We started growing stuff a couple of years ago, first on our tiny balcony in our D8 and now that we have a bit more room, on our porch in D9.

I tried to grow standard tomatoes in planters on the balcony in D8 but they all died, however a couple of cherry tomatoes nabbed from a salad in a restaurant in D1 were planted and we had quite a decent crop of thumb nail sized toms.

We also grow ginger in polystyrene boxes as well as rosemary in planters; bitter gourd on a trellis - the plants have given us about 10kg of fruits so far since Christmas; Pumpkin, my wife harvests the shoots, flowers and pumpkins and all get eaten; we have a star fruit tree in a large pot which gives us some lovely fruit; a kumquat tree in a large pot which just gave us 1.4kg of very sour fruit which has made a very nice marmalade; a couple of chili bushes which produce copious amounts of red (and green) chilies - just when you thing the bushes are dead and gone they sprout green leave, flowers and another crop of fruit. My experiment with capsicum (sweet peppers), seeds taken from a salad as before, resulted in a single perfectly formed red sweet pepper the size of my thumb. Cucumbers grow well herald we have had about 12 kg - more than we could eat, but the vines keep cropping. An aloe vera plant comes in useful for making drinks and solves for cuts and burns. Ladies fingers grow very well here and we have been giving them away to neighbors. Mint does well in pots and so does lettuce.
All this and more in an area of about 3 meters by 5 meters.

Eodmatt, Would you be interested in giving/selling me some of your produce for a small price?, I would like to eat organic food. Where do you live?
