Hello all!

Does anyone have experience with the process of attaining a professional (9-V) here in Quito? I have been really on top of the process, but have been receiving a lot of varied information from Ministerio employees. My questions are:

1. How long did the process take from solicitud/folder entry to actually receiving the visa.
2. How long was the process of having your diploma validated at SENESCYT (especially if your school it was already in their registry).
3. Have you found it useful or helpful rather then going for the work visa (12-6), where you need a lot of information form your employer, rather than working independently with the professional?

If you can answer all or any of these questions it would be much appreciated! I AM IN A BIND! Thank you!

Sorry, I couldn´t resist.

By the way, I think the following post was the source for much of the professional visa discussion:

Thanks, yea I read that, really helpful. She is also on one of my groups on FB so she answered me personally because I posted my question there as well.

Shannon,

It looks like SENECYT no longer provides the search tool on their website to determine whether one´s college is on the list of accepted schools.

I wonder if they are rethinking their approach on the professional visas?

Nards,

It's still there!

My University is on the list

I've got my 9-V approved...
It's that simple - you have to go to SENESCYT with your appostiled and translated copy of diplom, wait for about 1-1.5 month, got you diplom entered to their system.
Then just print the web page with data of your diplom from SENESCYT web site.
And with other docs go to "extranjeria" to obtain your 9-V
You could write me if you have any questions...

I am also working toward getting my Professional Visa and I have a few questions please:

1. Has anyone been able to get their diploma translated and notarized HERE versus my having to send it back to the states to be translated and apostiled by the Ecuadorian Embassy? I do have my original which is notarized and apostiled.

2. Once approved for Professional Visa - how long do they give you?

Thanks a ton!
:)

If the diploma is in English, you do not need it translated. It will need to be apostilled in the state that it was issued though. Once it is apostilled, you will need to make a copy and have it notarized in Ecuador. They will notarize the copy and Senesyct will keep the copy.
(I just went through this process twice-  once for my BA, which was on the list, and a 2nd time for my doctorate, which was not on the list (the list of universities).

The Secretary of State does the apostille (not the Ecuadorian Embassy).

Amyf,

So, we don't need it translated for SENECYT, but do we need it translated for the ministry when we turn in the visa paperwork?

Also, would you be so nice to quickly explain the process of turning in the diploma to SENECYT? Do we need paperwork? Certain times to go? Etc?

Thank you so much in advance!
