Can someone guide me about how to get an international driving license. I am an expat living in riyadh and do hold Saudi driving license and UAE driving license. I need it urgently. Please suggest. Thanks

I did a research on it and I still need more info.

Google it and you'll find many who'll make idl for you. But their license is just a printed card which I doubt is accepted anywhere.

Wikipedia says that there are just 2 organization whom US government has authorized to issue IDLs which are accepted in US only. One warning: dont fall for anyone who says that as per UN convention blah blah blah. UN and any of its bodies has absolutely nothing to do with such documents. They have issued warnings several times.

More info sought. Please keep us posted in case you get some useful and trustworthy info.

Not necessarily. Got info just now that I can get it from any travel agency, they issue it for one year charging SR 200.

I am an expat in Saudi Arabia and here travel agencies usually issue it charging SR 200 for one year validity, so simple :)
No idea how it happens at your end !

No the question is: Does anyone accept these issued licenses anywhere in the world? If yes, on what legal grounds? Say (God forbid) you get a serious accident while driving on this license, what will be your standing in the court?

If there are no legal grounds, anyone can print a card at home holding a photo calling it an IDL.

@Hnsi, a proper IDL would be issued by an authority not by a travel agent..

Next time your Iqama expires, pop into a local Tamimi or maybe Panda to get it renewed. Maybe where you are living currently it would be just OKAY. ;)

bro you are right, I was also of the view. But when I checked with travel agency in my area, they said they make it. Today I just went to get and was surprised to see the rush of people qued up to obtain IDL. Anyways I have got it from there, if you want to dig in more, just check with some good travel agency in your area. BTW I liked your witty sense, iqama renewal from panda....hehe

You could go to the Driver License office they could guide you in the correct direction. Following website also has some procedures under countries which can provide you some guidance.

SR200??? too good to be true!
But those can't be verified online unlike from our company wherever you are, traffic police can verify the existence and validity of your IDL. from this website.
