Its not "the people of riyadh" it might be your neighbors or may be when we meet new people, they r usually so occupied with old gatherings that they r just not intrested and it can happen any where

You're right, nonz.  I find the Saudi's I work with to be warm and friendly people and we share a good relationship at work.

However ... none of them have ever suggested hanging out or doing anything together outside of work.  None have ever invited me to their homes.

I think this is something males can do easier with male colleagues because they don't have the responsibility so much of family.  The women's lives are pretty much full  and there's no room for anybody else, unfortunately.

Now, as for expats, the ones who have been here for a while seem pretty much settled into their own routines, as well. But you know, it was the same way at home.  When you're not a kid--ie. 'footloose and fancy free'--you have other obligations and are not out running around, making friends lol

Hi Sanaarsh,

Welcome to KSA.

We have been here mow for 4 months, the local Saudi's are fine at work, but they are conservative and therefore any social activity after work just does not happen.

YOu will make friends and a new social life will begin...just be patient...

Enjoy KSA!

welcome sana...believe me, things will change...just hang on for some time and i think its good that u r getting a break for urself...
btw, which kitten u have? i love cats so much that at one point i had 11 persian cats! i had some kind of allergies and my doctor pointed the cats to be the culprit due to which i had to give them all away...still i dont believe the cats were the cause

I do wish this weren't the case. I'm having trouble finding friends too after 4 months of being here. Other expats (well I know 2 at least) from my country seem to have their own routine...if only I could wiggle my way into their routines..lol.

Hey,

You all have freinds on here.

So perhaps this freindship can move from cyberspace to the physical world?

Things will change...Im sure everyone will make friends..just take it easy...

Also we have found we had to make the initial effort.

Anyway...Im sure a get together over tea can be arranged.

When I landed to Riyadh.Life wasn't easy.I had to live in a small room which could Hardly accommodate nothing but a Double Bed,cupboard and a TV.6 months and for around 4 months i had no friend and one day i found a lady from Riyadh through Yahoo chat.As soon she got to know i live in same city, she forced me to give her phone no and then she insisted me to come her place same evening. Not to mention i was quite reluctant, since i was scared to meet new people but she was just not ready to hear any excuse and i went to her place and then no looking back.Through this wonderful friend of mine i met many and now i got really nice friends.
