Do you love college football? Are you looking for someone who also loves it? Do you by chance have a slingbox, but no one to yell at the TV with? You are in luck! :)

Looking for someone who has a way to record college football games ( I Love the SEC) and watch later that night. (As in Saturday nights usually). I will yell and cheer with you and provide beer and snacks for your slingbox services! (Or any other type of recording device) Let me know!! Games start this week!

TriVo33

Oh c'mon... Lets do this. Please let me know when and where... I love football n I'm a big FL gators fan. Hit me up @0932641100.

Thanks,

Tri

I am a college football nut; and I am thinking about bringing back a Slingbox.  I also know someone who has a Slingbox in Saigon.  But, I don't know if I want to watch with you SEC-types...

Just kidding!  But I live way down in Can Tho.  I do have a place in PMH, where I can go and kick-back on the weekend.  I am just not too sure about making the trek every weekend though...  I also have a buddy in PMH, who has a Slingbox.  But, must consult with him first.

Anyway, YES, it is that time of year again.  And this year, it is going to be THE USC all the way, sanctions and all!!!

Don't be scared. :gloria

Wild_1

@Cang, Yeah.  But a couple things just came up, and the college football season too, so I might postpone my date a little.  You still use the same number, yeah?

@Jakejas,  Scared?  Remember the woods we laid on Arkansas and Auburn??  Not to mention Oklahoma, in the Orange Bowl???  Maybe we will run into you guys and your Johnny Football, hopefully he will retain his eligibility, this year.  Then, you will know what happens, right??????  :dumbom:

You're not allowing for the time difference between here and USA. Right now, games that start at Noon, EDT, on Saturday, can be seen here at 11pm Saturday night. Since many people stay up late on Saturday, those games could be watched live. Same for the 8pm EDT games on Saturday night, which could be watched live here at 7am Sunday morning. (Bloody Marys for breakfast, anyone?) The games that really need to be recorded are the 3:30pm EDT games, which are on here in the middle of the night. I usually record those games, and the Saturday night games after them, and get up Sunday morning and start watching all day Sunday. (The wife really has a lot of patience with me for this.:D)

So Bebe, most of your yelling and cheering will need to be done on Sunday morning.

bebe517

Well, as a Gamecock most of our games are on at 3:30 or 8. So yes I could get up at 7 am (which will most likely happen-this Friday our game starts at 5 am) or stay up till 5:30 am, but as everyone knows, it is more fun to watch sports with other people. Maybe even getting people together for the bowl games and BCS games at the end of the season if that is all that can work out.

I'll try not to hold that against you, although I do like your "Carolina" better than the other one, and will be hoping yours wins on Friday.

So does this mean you've already found someone willing to share their Slingbox with you?

As for me, I'll DVR the game, stay off the internet all day, and watch it after work Friday evening.

bebe517

No, no. I will watch on ESPN 360 live. Our game the week after is at 4:30....looks like a lonngggg night of drinking on Saturday...I, miraculously, have a friend who lives here that has a slingbox AND is also a gamecock fan. However, his slingbox isn't working at the moment so can't rely on that.

Nam_

One option you guys might want to consider if you miss recording something somehow is checking torrent sites. This probably won't be news to anybody but I've watched a couple of NFL (Da Bears...) preseason games (don't give a crap about college football to be honest) I downloaded from kickasstorrents so your college games will probably be there as well. Just a thought...

saigonmonkey

^Yes, that is a possibility. But speaking of giving a crap, that's the problem - the only games you'll find on torrent sites are the ones that the majority of the US football fan population gives a crap about - like games involving Alabama or Notre Dame. Unfortunately for me, my team's games are highly unlikely to ever be uploaded. Thus, it's the Slingbox or nothing for me.

Nam_

Understood. I have a favorite MLS soccer team in the U.S. as well and there aren't any torrents going back two years...would one of those fancy schmancy slingboxes help me? The games would have to be actually televised here in order for me to record them yes?

bebe517

Another problem with torrents is they won't usually become available until days after the game. Looks like I will have a whack sleeping schedule for the next few months on the weekends.

The owning and operating of a Slingbox is not that simple. You'll have to involve other family members, or a very close friend, to be able to own and access one.

Step 1: Have a family member or close friend who lives in the TV coverage area of the team you want to see.

Step 2: Make sure that person has the cable TV service you desire, and a strong internet connection. Something on the order of business class, or at least a "Turbo" speed connection. Make sure you get a DVR, because THAT'S how you record the programs and games you want to "time-shift" and watch here.

Step 3: Get that person to agree to let you set up a Slingbox in their home, using their TV and internet service. Offering to share at least your portion of the usage cost will help convince them. It's best if you get your own connection in another room of their home, so you won't be interfering with their TV viewing habits. I've known people who set up their Slingboxes on the same TV as their "host", and had conflicts. (Just like if you were sitting there in their living room with them, and didn't want to watch what they're watching.)

Step 4: Go buy the Slingbox and set it up at your family/friend's home, using the computer you will use to watch it while you're here. (Not mandatory, but it helps.)

Step 5: Before you leave to come back to VN, make sure the Slingbox will work by watching on another wi-fi internet connection somewhere.

Step 6: In VN, get your landlord to agree to let you upgrade your VN internet to the best connection speed you can afford. Fiber-optic is a good bet, but the best ADSL connection will work as well.

Step 7: Try watching on various wi-fi connections around your area to compare them with your internet connection speed. Make sure yours is indeed faster than any others. Otherwise, you may not really be upgraded.

Step 8: Once everything is set up and working, ENJOY anything you want to watch, here in VN. Especially (for me) SPORTS.

Wild_1

Wait a minute, big man.  I have to get a DVR, too?

saigonmonkey

When I got my first slingbox, I had no DVR. It was a pain in the a$$ having to stay up all hours of the night to watch most games. So I recommend having one. If USC plays a lot of late afternoon or night games on the west coast, you may be able to do without.

Wild_1

Thanks, Saigonmokey!  Low tech me have always thought that the DVR was part of the new cable box or the slingbox.  :D

Howie, you need to check with your TV service provider. Many of the cable boxes DO have DVRs built in. Don't go out and get one until you're sure of this.

Wild_1

Will do.  Thank you, Mr. Marley!  :D

On a sports related topic, any one here play softball? Need members? Be interested in forming a team? Thoughts?

saigonmonkey

Hey Bebe,
Is your boy Clowney gonna be able to play a whole game without getting winded this week? :)

Wild_1

This is going to be a good weekend:
Florida vs Miami
South Carolina vs Georgia  (Clowney vs Boyd)
Notre Dame vs Michigan
USC and its depleted secondary will be in the Coliseum, hosting pass-happy Mike Leach and Washington State.
If only the weather in southern California would cool off a little...

But if you had not made this statement last week:

You would not need that response this week.:)

Why can't everyone would just let his play on the field speak for itself?

3:30am tomorrow morning if you're watching live.

Wild_1

Clowney is good.  He reminds me of Bruce Smith.  But, I think the Heisman is out of the window now, in light of what Boyd did against Georgia last week.  Also, did you guys see what that freshman QB, from Florida State, did last week?  He has my vote.

And did you guys see what Johnny Football did last week?  What a turd!  That boy just doesn't know when to stop, does he?

saigonmonkey

I saw it all, Howie. But I'm surprised you did. I didn't think you west coast guys cared very much about what's going on back east. :)  Agree with all your points and think Jameis Winston could be one to watch this season. I don't know if he's just that good, or Pitt's defense was just that bad. I'm inclined to think its more the former. We'll see.

Wild_1

Surprise???  We know everything, Miss Saigonmonkey!!!  We even know how you guys got Johnny Football his 1/2 game suspension...

saigonmonkey

Howie, your boys play an ACC team this weekend. You think LK might be able to pull this one out?

Wild_1

I certainly hope so.  Ohhh, last week was bad!!!  This week, I just bought me some buffalo wings and turkeys.  I hope Kiffin will open up his menu (the playbook he has been sporting during games) for all of us.  He is going to need every play as well.  There has been a lot of rumblings about his job.

What about you?  Are you ready for Bama's game, against Johnny Football?  I think I am going to tune into that UCLA vs Nebraska game, too.

Hi Bebe, there use to be a softball league in HCMC that played at the Taiwan School. However, there has been no activity on the website for a year or so. saigonsoftball.info/
I think the economy must have done the league in. You might be able to revive it. The Taiwanese will give you a game and I believe the Japanese have a team or two. If you get something going let me know. I live in Vung Tau and I might be able to get some Brit and Aussie cricket players here to give you a challenge.
