Having read a lot the topics on the forum in Ho Chi Minh about internet connections and reliability
I am going to ask the same question here and see what answers come up.
What is the state of the internet, and mobile phone coverage in Hoi An?
What speed can I expect to get?
Who are the providers?
Who is the best?
Who supplies the best deals?

And the all important question who gives the best PRICE for internet and mobile phone?????
come on lets hear all the answers............................

Dear bluecheer,

1/ Internet / mobile
All very good and getting better everywhere. I have no problem with 3g for the phone and connexion at home is very good.

2/ Speed... 4mb? Not sure

3/ Providers... FPT & VNPT. I always recommend FPT. More reliable than VNPT.

4/ Above - FPT

5/ FPT Oh and VIETTEL now offer fiber optic for 380,000 vnd per month

6/ For internet, FPT for normal internet, VIETTEL for fiber and mobiphone for 3g - 50,000 vnd per month

Hope this answers all.

Thanks,
Alex

Thank you Alex. Will be over in December, now can you suggest anywhere to live about half way between Hoi An and Da Nang?
I have a job offer and would like to live in Hoi An. I think travelling on a motor bike to Da Nang every day might be to much!!
I would rather live by the beach, so if you know of anything please email me.
thanks.

If you are working in Da Nang, I would agree that the drive there and back everyday would not be ideal. There are some properties for rent between Da Nang and Hoi An, but they are at top standard with private swimming pools and of course the price tag follows. Count around 1500usd / month for a 3 bedroom pool villa.

If you are working at one of the resorts between Da Nang and Hoi An they are likely to provide transportation from your town to the hotel.

I can honestly say after 6 years here that Da Nang and Hoi An both have their pros & cons. Da Nang is great if you live towards the beach side, feels like a small town until you cross the bridge to the other side.
