You guys are like those characters from SEINFELD. ..this is the funniest thread !
I love Indonesian food, but can't seem to cook it, can I come? You're all welcome around my gaff, but you may need to sit on someone's lap and share a plate, fork and spoon!

Oh, and I'm not Sinta, Santa or any other transvestite ghost, so please don't perform you exorcism on me, even though I'm often only allowed out after dark!
Sophie Fisher wrote:Its Sinta Sam...
I'm pretty sure its not a Santa. Not qualified! Lolol
Santa was my spell check correction Ooops
But if Santa is alive and living with Ian and sinta in kemang I think we should all go there for dinner
angelll wrote:Count me in for the cooking! Not sure for the ghostbusting lol
Hahaha.

angelll wrote:Count me in for the cooking! Not sure for the ghostbusting lol
Cooking definitely sounds much better than ghost hunting

Neither, but I am pretty good at eating and washing dishes as well! Guess by counting me in only means they will have less waste and cleaner kitchen by the end of the day :p

I thought my thread wouldnt be abused like this, but oh well... as long as everyone's happy
This thread is awesome but you must remember how no one can stay in topic. Sharing cooking ideas is a great way to bring people together

We can use my place or any one else's that works. Annie can you let me know the date and thd address if it is somewhere else
Wow, that's almost entirely on topic. I think I'll go post something random on one of Luke's to compensate
Hi Sam, I thought you wanted it on 27th. Lol.
Though Im fine with 26th aswell. Are we on for lunch? Or dinner?
We can start with your place, Indonesian food cooking for a start :-)
Anyone interested should comment here or PM, so will be updated on the exact plan.

I'd prefer the Saturday if that's OK with people. Happy to have it in my house, I'm not aware of any ghosts here
Does anyone know the recipe for the green sambal you get in Padang?
This time I wont be helping you guys cooking.
Swimming and eating.
That is it.

I think you can make padang's green sambal with the usual way you cook the red sambal dish, and all you need to do is to switch the chillies from red ones to green ones.

It tastes sweeter fresher with less prawn/seafood or something as I remember it... seems like a new exploration for sambal recipes needed
you mean Terasi ? yeah..it's less stinky too,as some people can't stand the smell.
Sambal is versatile actually, we can it mix it too with fruits and called it sambal rujak.
count me in tooo
ohya samhand, if u dont like terasi, we can use teri medan fish (kind of ancovy) :-),,,,or just plain

so sambal is on the menu.
Maybe gorengan to go with it? Is the most indonesian food I know
angelll wrote:So is it fix on Saturday? Cause I will have to cancel if it is
Let's see, we can be flexible...
Guys, its decided to be on the 26th of October. Saturday.
Please send me your phone numbers by PM (if I havent got it) from the last gatherings.
We will make a type of sambal. You guys have to choose;
1. Sambal Ijo (green padang sambal)
2. Sambal terasi (shrimp paste flavor sambal)
Then anyone with suggestion of the dishes , please shout it.
I have thought of a few , so maybe you can choose too.
1. Gorengan ( deep fried stuffed tofu in batter, bakwan sayur/vegetable fritter, tempe goreng)
2. Urap ( steamed veggies served with spicy shredded coconut dressing)
You can also help me with the protein /meat dish pick :-)
annie,, i try pm u and send u my number,,, but i get redirect to complete my profile,,,, not sure, did u get my message ?,,,
Count me in!
For some people can't eat terasi, you can try sambal tomat (tomato & red chili sauce)as another variant of red sambal (without terasi). I can help you on this.
Sam/Sophie, do you prepare the manual shredder machine? It would be fun to try how it works for the team here!
For a moment am in Surabaya; Petis (shrimp paste), terasi, bandeng asap, krupuk udang, those stuff are famous here... and its good combine with urap or even with sayur asem (tamarind soup). Anything you need from here, let me know...

I did get your PM, usually they redirect you back to your profile after you send a PM.
If you're not sure, just go to your SENT messeges and check if its there :-)
I will contact you ASAP :-)

Great to hear you Wid!
Are you talking abt Ulekan? Grinder? :-)
Btw, Im a big fan of bumbu pecel from Surabaya, would it be too much hassle if you try to get a small pack for me?
Thanks a lot!!
Annie
hi annie, no probs - i'll get bumbu pecel for you! Am talking about traditional coconut shredder/parut kelapa for urap. Ulekan/cobek (traditional grinder) is another fun too, to make sambal.

Ah, that one... I dont think Sam has it. And neither do I.
If we want to make the urap I guess one of us has to bring from home, or we can always go out and get one :-)
Im also thinking, Sayur asam (sour soup) suits sambal perfectly. So maybe we can make that too. Sayur asam, sambal, ayam goreng and tempe and tahu? How does that sound? Skip the urap for now, maybe?
Oh well, time to eat again... :p
I hope no need to get the ice from Starbucks again, Sam! LOL..
yummy,,, it sounds good annie
but if u need traditional coconut shredder, i think i have at home,, so no problem
sayur asam or urap,, both nice :-)
Hi guys...I would like to join you, may I ?!? ;-)
Hi All,
Probably best to set a limit of 8 people if we all want to do some cooking. Though I guess there is space for other people to come along and eat/ offer moral support/ mix cocktails
I'd like to add
Green tomato sambal
and Pempek to the list
Could everyone please PM Annie to confirm, since she seems to be arranging.
We will worry about menu, logistics etc nearer the time
How can I contact Annie? Please count me on the list Annie hehehehehe..
Anyway, I can make green chili Padang food, as I am padangness ;-)))
