Holiday in HCM and Taxi Rates

Hi KH,

The distance from Tan Son Nhat airport to Ben Thanh Ward is around 8km, of course depends on your exact location.

So, the taxi rates could be calculated as below:

1. "open door" - the first 0.7km : 11,000 VND
2. from 0.7 to 30km: 16,000 VND/ km
3. Tolls - airport service fee: 10,000 VND
4. Optional: Waiting fee: 2,500 VNĐ /3minutes

Noted that the unit price is for reference only but not much different and depend on your arrive time (rush hour or night time), but the total is under 200,000 VND.

Before you leave the Arrival Hall into the Guest Welcoming area, you have to pass a glass sliding door. There are taxi counters on the left and right of the sliding gate.
Check the prices of each stall and try to bargain to 150-200k VND.
You can change your USD to VND with the stalls.
They are well aware you are staying in the upper end of the tourist area.

Just kidding...as a rule of thumb should't ever pay more than $1 USD per kilometer.  Gas prices are a little more than $1 USD / liter and you know even the fattest truck doesn't take 1 liter of gas to go 1 kilometer.

Tipping is not a practice in Vietnam so don't be conned into adding anything beyond the meter.
