I have just been given a price list for Al Hamra Compound and a 1 bedroom appartment is SAR 150,000. Can anyone tell me is this reasonable for all the facilities provided?

The rent depends on what your looking for, your standard of living and what, if any, assistance the company is offering.  Al Hamra is one of the  nicest (in my opinion) compounds in the Riyadh area.  Its has many facilities and activities for its residents, the housing is nice and the compound is well maintained.  There are many compounds that are just as big and and have similar facilities with less expensive housing, but the standard of living is different too.

Before we moved over I did extensive research on the housing here in Riyadh.  We were lucky enough to come twice to look at the housing and while I loved AL Hamra & Kingdom City for what they offered by way of amenities, we ultimately decided on a villa in a very small compound of 34 homes because we liked the villa!  But that decision didn't come easy.  Im not working here, so not having all of the facilities & people around that a large compound offers was hard to give up.  But we love the house and do alot of activities off the compound.

So its much like buying a house.  What you initially think you want isn't necessarily what you end up with.  Its all a matter of compromise and what you believe your needs are.

CAF makes excellent points.

I would add that if you have children, the larger compounds with recreation centers, etc., are the best choice.

though 150K for just one BR is quiet expensive compared to other compounds. did you try checking out al Yamama?
