I'm spending a month in Ho Chi Min City from mid November to mid December to do an english teaching course in district 1. I have looked at a number of hotels but was wondering whether a serviced apartment would be a better option. I have no previous experience with Vietnam (very very excited). This is an intense course so an apartment with creature comforts would be great - like in-house swimming pool, gym etc. and all this walking distance from my school! I have a budget of up to USD$700, but only if it ticks all my boxes. Do any of you out there know if this is realistic? Also if I come a few days earlier would I be able to find something on the ground or is it better to organise beforehand? Thanks for any info folks!

I think your school may help out this.
1 month accommodation may be difficult in apartments. If someone willing to share, there is a chance!

I think I have one apartment that you looking for in downtown District 1. I used to live in that. It about $250-$350/ month with include everything that I know. You can contact them through email: hollandguesthouse@gmail.com that's what I used to do to have pics and everything from them. I think this price is ok since it's fully furnished lol

Hi - I've been VN for several years (actually back and forth between here and the States).  I just finished a similar effort in finding a service apt in District 1.  I'd be happy to share my 'research' with you.  There are a lot of good choices, just depends on your priorities.  You can feel free to message me back through this service (at least I think you can?) or call me in HCMC at 01254785785.  Dale.

P.S. I'm not a broker trying to sell you anything :)

Hi Dale. That would be great. Not sure if you can message on this and as I'm in Europe so calling HMC might get a bit expensive. Do you have an email I could reply to? Or you could email me on mephi716@gmail.com. Any insights you have would be much appreciated. Thanks. Andy

Hi,
With tourists who posses below 3-month visa, i am afraid it is not legally to rent an apartment in Vietnam.
Besides, Vietnamese house owners may give no chance for the short-term (below 6 months) rental contract.
You should contact some friends or acquaintances here to share a room or may contact some real-estate agents to get some details of serviced apartments.:D
Enjoy your stay in Vietnam, then. :)

I was attempting a similar arrangement for a month through Tet, finally settled on a hotel through Agoda.com, a London based company who seems to have very reasonable rates on many hotels in Saigon, especially District 1.

You may give them a try, good luck!

You are running into the warm month with out the rain so I would try to get something before arriving.

Hello there,
I could give you a help with the insight of a local in District 1. I know all of the serviced apartments in District 1 and District 2 (but probably you don't need to know about District 2, because your school is in District 1).
I'm happy to tell you what I know about the surrounding to help you have an idea of the general living in District 1. It's one of my ways to improve my English and having new foreign friend. :)
So, feel free to contact me if you need my assistance. Some email exchange may help us to figure out what we need to do. Khoi.phamx@gmail.com
Good luck,
Khoi.
