WiMax Usage Allowance

I've trawled through this forum to try to find the answer to this question, so can only apologise if it has been dealt with already, BUT...
Is there a usage allowance with Wimax internet? My wife is currently in Tripoli; we've been Skyping each other every day and yesterday it dropped out. She has not been able to get back in since. She's obviously going out of her mind with boredom, and I'd be a lot happier if I knew a way to get her back online.
If it is the case, how does one resolve this situation? For the cost of WiMax, I'll be annoyed if there isn't even sufficient usage to allow a daily Skype conversation.
Or am I simply barking up the wrong tree on this one?
If by usage you mean Gigs per month, The limit is 10gigs from what I remember when I purchased mine. If shes downloading music and movies in a month its quite easy to fill this up. Youtube and things like that also eat up alot of your Usage.
But if shes Msn'ing and just chillen on the net and such then she shouldnt have any issues with going over 10 gigs. Skype doesnt eat up much anyway. Unless its been over a year where her credit may have run out, and if shes working for a company and they have supplied her with a wimax then it may be an old one and its one year may be up! REFILL!
I would recommend she talk to LTT
Hope this helps.
Thanks for your reply Turkey!
Actually, there is no downloading going on (and YouTube would be nice!), and this is only the third week since getting WiMax.
Perhaps this isn't an issue of overuse after all...
A follow up though - I tried to contact LTT before, but couldn't progress beyond the initial recorded message. Is there something I have been doing wrong, or should be doing that you know about?
Don't want to be a pest about this, but I'm beginning to fear for dear Mrs Kludge's sanity!
When you use up the 10 gigs, the status light on the box will blink incessantly and the wimax box won't establish a handshake with a tower. You can set your wimax account to buy additional quota. Each 500 mb past the 10 gig limit costs 10 dinar. If you go to an LTT office they can set your box to automatically add more quota when you exceed 10 gigs.
My colleagues and I are having problems with the old wimax donggle (black color). There's 4 of us and 3 of us currently can't get connected. Tried to top up one of our accounts for 30 Dinar today but suprisingly they say we still got 150 LD balance on that one.
I don't know what's up with WiMax. Tried to call the first time, the guy hung up on me once I asked if he can speak english.
The second time, I got a dentist. But I for the life of me, KNOW and was very sure I dialed the right number.
I find I get decent service when I go in person to one of the LTT offices. The smaller satellite offices seem to be able to help when I have trouble.

the better way is to visit them with contract copy, getting telephonic support is not a good idea in libya
Today the Wimax connection is awful, but in saying that so is the internet at work, this points to LTT 'working' on their setup. My wife was/is listening to BBC Radio 1 and it keeps dropping out. Last week the service was brilliant, yesterday started to go slower, and today ground to a halt. Oh if you don't change your password then their is NO limit for download, it is only when the password is changed from the default that the limit kicks in (so I have been told anyway).

Do you mean the admin password on the wimax box?
hi there
Try uninstalling wimax and then re-installing.Just make sure you have all the passwords etc. In the past I've had to do this a couple of times. My wimax has lasted a year, just had to top up this month.

I use the dongle, and when installing it I was asked for the password (which came with the instructions) I haven't changed the password from the default, and so far have not had any limitations on downloading (when it bloody works )
gabacho wrote:Do you mean the admin password on the wimax box?
Yep, leave the account settings as the default values. Mrs S regularly downloads up to 5Gb a day and never had any problems.

I can confirm that this doesn't work with the newer white wimax boxes. My password is still the default admin and it is registering usage correctly. Guessing it might only work with the old black boxes or the dongles.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh don't say that, I have the new white dongle and haven't had any problems YET

Take a closer look at my post. I have a white wimax box and not the dongle.

What's with the attitude pal ?, in your post you said 'Guessing it might only work with the old black boxes or the dongles', now to me (a native English/Scottish speaker) that INFERS that both the new routers AND dongles might have a problem.

There is no attitude in my post, it was a friendly comment clarifying my post. I'm not sure why you're offended - I think you might be reading into things too much.
Read my post carefully - I said the unlimited bandwidth doesn't work with the new white boxes. I also said the loophole probably only works with the old black boxes or the dongles (bold above).
Nothing I wrote indicates that there might be a problem with the dongles.
Calm down, read my post carefully, keep in mind it isn't a dig. I'm just trying to help you.

Thank you for that, but with all due respect, I am a native English speaker and inference plays a major part in our communication. Now I might have interpreted your initial post incorrectly (and if so I am sorry), but you infer that the NEW routers AND dongles have the limit imposed. Oh aye I work in IT networking and security and have done for 15 years
The download limit shouldn't (in theory at least) be dependent upon what type of modem you are using; more likely a function of your account settings - when it was created and the billing/download restrictions which LTT had in place at the time.
One of my neighbours is using the new style white modem/router and has unrestricted downloads.

Cheers mate, I am probably getting a bit tetchy due to the fact that the water has been off and on at my flat for the last 3 days, wife nae chuffed
Thanks to all for advice on this one. Seems my initial suspicions were on the ball. Upon topping up the account, the WiMax is on again. Just trying to ascertain what's hammered the bandwidth now. Skype? Radio 2 streaming?
Am very intrigued by these posts which claim no download limit, especially in light of maxing ours out after only two and half weeks of moderate usage.
KingOfKludge wrote:Am very intrigued by these posts which claim no download limit,
Yeah.. it's like telling Robinson Crusoe there's an All-You-Can-Eat buffet just over the hill. I know how tthat feels.

It's not some wild claim pal, it's a fact....
Read my post 4 back. If you bought your package before LTT got their $hit together, you get unlimited downloads. Sorry-o if you didn't.
I bought 8 wimax connections for my office last year in various time period, from the last month LTT has restricted my bandwidth to 10Gig.
This bandwidth restriction is on their billing server not on the modems/routers, and i guess they have implemented this for every user,,, check your balance for an update.

I agree with you Sandman. I think there are a lot of accounts that are not set-up properly. Has nothing to do with which modem you have and entirely to do with their account management. Congrats to those lucky people who are not bandwidth constrained.
As a matter of interest (from a thick Network Engineer) how do you check how much limit you have left for the month ?

No hassle. Is that Derek Riordan in your avatar?

That 'pal' seems unnecessarily aggressive... Besides, "I ain't your pal, buddy."
Did indeed purchase the package only recently, so guess we have to accept our lot. Shucks.

Awwwwww I'm distraught
Calm down old boy. I was merely quoting South Park.
In a bit of a petulant mood these last few days, Sandman. I do hope Libyan life isn't getting you down...
Thanks again to all of you who have offered helpful advice.

Not at all your Royal Kludgeness....more the fact that the (once) mighty Forest now have an uphill battle against a bunch of northern monkeys at the City Ground on Tuesday night!
I feel your pain Sandypants. The Mariners were only today relegated from the football leagues, breaking the hearts of hardy Grimsby folk like the good Lady Kludge. Why do we do this to ourselves I ask you?
Pain indeed - I am so looking forward to meeting the rabble who live just down the M1, at Wembley in the final. Cloughie must be turning in his grave.
Can anyone confirm the new allowance (10 or 15 GB)?
