Hi Sam,

I been in Dubai for the past 9 years. Life in Dubai is like a roller coaster!! You want to live for 1000 dirhams; you can!! As per my view, not because I am Indian, anything above 10K is fine(just fine as long as you are single). Rents are soaring high but you can find sharing or with a friend rather than living alone which is so boring(my view). But all depends on u. If you can get a driving license as soon as u join u r job(though takes 2-3 months) you can move to Sharjah which has the cheapest rents but takes all u r life because of traffic or stay further on the other side like sports city, etc which are also really affordable. I stay in Discovery where rent used to be cheap but now they are so expensive. Once u have car, u will save money in transportation. Cook u r self, u save money on food, on weekdays. Don't make my mistake - never answer a call from a bank who will call u 365 days to sell u credit card!!. Take one and keep it safe, because though they say free for life, interest rates are killing high and the Dubai is infamous for luring u to buy things :) you can even find used /new items here - www.dubizzle.com

Let me know if you need any more info.

Its a good salary as start here.. You can save money if u live in sharjah... rents for 1 bedroom apartment in sharjah vary from AED1600 per month to AED2500 per month or a bit more depending upon the location and condition of the building.. Though Dubai and sharjah are Twin cities but shj consider good for residing in sense of cheap accommodations so so many people live here and work in dubai. just a 10-15 minutes drive but in morning this 10 minutes drive turn into 1 hours and 30 minutes because of the bottle neck road though there are option for other roads too now as it was not before but still traffic.... single person who eat normal and cook in home can fetch a good grocery in 400-500 AED... some people spend accordingly and may can buy things from promotions costing them less... all the years there are promotions.... electricity bill in sharjah is a bit high then dubai.. but rents are less in shj..... Try to take apartment is central ac building where you do not ned to pay for Air conditioning as UAE is a hot country so most important thing is this...

1 Bedroom apartment in SHARJAH cost AED 1600 - AED 2500
1 Bedroom apartment in Dubai cost AED 3200 - AED 5000.. and could be more because dubai has more areas and location options... some people who live in highly posh areas also pay a bit more for 1 bedroom.....

grocery/food for single person AED 400 - 600 depending upon choice of food meat vegetables..
Utilities (Electricity bill/water/gas)

Sharjah
1bedroom (winter/summer) 250-800 AED

Dubai
1 bedroom (winter/summer) can consider a bit less because what i feel electricity in sharjah is expensive.. because while living in sharjah i pay 800 for my bed while my friends living in dubai pay 400 or 500... it maybe depend how much u use...

Hope it will help

Hi Sam,

Congratulations! you and your hubby have made the right decision to come and live here in Dubai. for this salary you can live in Dubai easily, no worries, Dubai lifestyle is flexible, you can manage yourself and in the same time you'll enjoy it. a little bit difficult in the beginning to get all your paper work done, but within 3 - 4 months all will be settled.

Again, Congratulations and All the best,

Hello Sam and my congratulations also on the new job.
Check if your new employers are providing your accommodation or,  ask them for guidance depending on where your work location will be, or if they are able to provide you with short term accommdoation while you find your feet and look for your own. As previously mentioned dubizzle have plenty of properties to rent.
Nobody can say 'yes' you can live on your salary as this depends on your own personal lifestyle (if you want to regularly dine out, buy a new car or boat, partying every week-end at the 5* hotels) will make a big dent in your salary!
Take life easy the first few months, enjoy the free sights and sounds of Dubai and don't allow yourself to be taken in by the glitz and glamour :)
