Registering a birth in Iceland

Post new topic

David

Hi,

About to have a baby or already had children? Let's share your experience about the paperworks for registering a birth in Iceland.

What are the formalities to obtain a birth certificate?

What is the procedure to follow if both parents are of the same nationality or for a mixed couple?

Thank you in advance for participating,

David

Kristinn

If your baby is born in Iceland it automatically registers at the Iceland Register.
For more information you should talk to Iceland Register (Þjóðskrá)

ECS

just to clarify though- being registered in Þjóðskrá doesn't mean the child is Icelandic! The country does not grant citizenship simply by being born in Iceland.
