Hello everyone,
I am thinking of purchasing an Amazon Kindle. It is at $69. Free Shipping.

I would like to know whether the product will arrive at the post-office so i can fetch it or will it be stuck at the customs office, and if it does get stuck: is it taxable?

Thank you.

Dear bananaa,
I bought another e-book on Ebay three months ago and received it in Port Louis main post office. I paid taxes - abt 300Rs (price of book was abt 4500Rs)

Hey Olga, Thank you for replying.
By ebook you mean the reader right? Since an e-book is "downloaded" and not shipped. :)
And you did not face any trouble with other custom issues and all?
Thanks again.

Yes, bananaa
It is reader. Delivery was abt 20 days, no any problems, I received the notification and went to post office. They said you have to pay, that's it))

Well Thanks. You have been of great help.

It depends on the weight of the item. I purchased a mobile phone worth Rs 5000 last year and I did not pay any tax. The product was even delivered at my place. Whether I was lucky or not, I am not even sure.

However for larger and 'heavier' products, you will have to go to the Customs House in PL. And for custom duties, you will find out there itself.
