My name is manu and i am from INDIA .my question may sound a bit strange (atleast thats what my friends think of it lolzzz ) . i am from an fairly well off economic family background (father is a politician) and i am in my 3rd year of engineering (COMP SCIENCE) but i want to take a break for a 2 years and work at grass root level for the people . so can any one plss give me some idea on how to obtain a job(without my degree) in any administrative or non-governmental organizations in cambodia (i am open to paying money for the job if i have to ) and i don't even want the salary to be huge or defined, but i just want an salary which could sustain my daily bread and simple housing in cambodia for my daily life since my father has challenged me to live on my own without my daily luxuries for 2 years without the help of my family.

and please don't think i am doing this with anger, challenge or adventurism against my father .. i just feel like doing it that's all and may be my experience will make me a better man when i return and finish my final year degree . thanks in advance :)

Hi manu,

I suggest you to have a look at the different jobs in Cambodia and to post an advert in the sector which suits you the best.

Thank you and good luck,

Firstly, are you already in Cambodia? If so, do your research into the various organisations on the ground and physically go to their headquarters with your resume and speak to them, many don't advertise vacancies on the internet or in the papers. In saying that, some do, so check the local newspapers (Cambodia Daily and Phnom Penh Post) and recruitment websites (CamHR, HRinc, Cambodian Recruitment Agency). Contact some recruitment agencies, meet with them and discuss your options. Also, Network....get to know people, networking is one of the best ways to find jobs.

Secondly, you say you have a business visa...there is no actual business visa anymore in Cambodia, it is called an Ordinary Visa. Even with an Ordinary Visa, you still require a Work Permit. This should be provided by your employer though. Ensure that your employer provides you with a work permit, this ensures the organisations legitimacy.

Best of luck, its not easy finding employment (apart from teaching) for foreigners in Cambodia, but it is possible. Remember - Network, go the organisations physically - don't just email your resume, contact recruitment agencies, and finally - be patient.
