Hello Mika, :)

Your topic is original. :top:

The engagement ring should be as cheap as possible for regrets not to be too great in case something  happens.

I call it 'the test ring'.

The real gold ring with a big, expensive diamond on it should be given only at the silver, gold or diamond wedding anniversary.

I am thinking same question these days Mika. He is not a guy to wear rings! What should I buy him? He says PLASTIC:D

In England, the tradition is a thin gold band with a single stone.
I've given out a few.

The first was with good intent, the latter ones because I was a very naughty boy and wanted to con the girl into thinking there was more to the relationship than sex.
I rarely bothered but a few were especially good so I hung on until I moved on.

The moral here is, the ring can mean everything or it can mean nothing, if it's from a naughty man such as myself.

The question was what would you prefer and not how an engagement ring must look like.

I will definitive go for diamond: I can't resist to all the wonderful and colorful sparkles.

Hi John. What about wedding? What kind of ring will you offer to your beloved wife?

mal - rings generally would not appeal to guys. Food, ticket to a rugger match, organizing a night out with his buddies, ... these are things your man will appreciate, my opinion. :)

Good luck.

My wife is not too fond of rings and jewelry. She would love a huge bunch of flowers, maybe some chocolates to go with them.

But if its a toss up between plain gold ring or diamond ring, I would buy a ring with diamonds.

[Edits: typo - "fond" instead of "find"]

For me, I prefer a gold ring with a huge diaman (yes I deserve it)

Then Farhaz.... do I need to offer him to go out with his buddies, instead of a wedding ring?
In the Wedding day???

LoL - I do apologize. Did not realize this was for the wedding day. :dumbom:

It will have to be a ring then. He may keep it on for sometime. I had mine on for a couple of years and then quietly discarded it. My excuse - gaining weight and hence the ring not fitting me any more :)

Mika750

Hi Farahz.I am similar to your wife. Not a big fan of expensive jems.I prefer to mix & match statement jewelries over my little black dress. But for special occasion like engagement or wedding maybe. I would love to get a gold ring.

Farhaz

Gold is indeed a good option. Once its usefulness is over, it sure is a good investment [[$$$]] :)

Best wishes Mika750.

Hi Mika, :)

After the experiences I had, and knowing what I know now, I would only offer the cheapest wedding ring, an imitation, until the silver, golden or diamond anniversary when the marriage will have matured, IF …
If the marriage resists the passage of time, then indeed, I go for a big, big expense, but never before.

Keep in mind that I am a contrarian: I do everything the opposite of what the crowds do.
I admit, it’s not easy to find a genuine woman to fall for a cheap ring who knows for sure she will get all the love and respect 25 years later …

Oh John, is that so??
:P:P:P

No I mean, like...?
You wear the ring in the toe other than in the finger?

I wish you all the best on your quest to find a woman like that.

No one single woman wants to get respect and love after 25 years.

Nope!
Woman still needs it but guys don't give it :(:(:(
Instead they like to give that to any other young woman- behaving like a well-matured, well-mannered gentleman! ;););)

beppi

None.
If a relationship depends on gold, diamond or other things that (lots of) money can buy, then there is something wrong in the relationship!

Hello there,

1). Thank you for the good luck wish you sent in my direction, but it would help women to have good luck to find a man like me ... especially because I am not looking ....

2). Yes, I know, women are made to ask for love and respect in the beginning when they did not earn it.
Courtship is one thing because entertains hopes of marriage, marriage is a totally different thing where rules must be respected and where the scope of marriage which united two lovers in the beginning must not be changed during the game.

Asking for that which has not been earned is one of the biggest faults of human’s brain hardwiring.

With me it’s very simple: a cheap trinket in the beginning and the most expensive golden ring with diamond in the jeweler’s store only at silver wedding anniversary.
Just as there is a patch for every sack, I know everybody can find what they look for, including a wife seduced by not spending cash.  (edit added: Sorry I forgot to add my usual emoticon :)  )

I would like to give or like to have

rohitpokharel

It all depends on the financial capability and stability. If I were rich or had a handsome paying stable job, I would go for Diamond as they say "Diamond are forever" but once the diamond swap hand from Seller to Buyer, it tends to lose its value by more than 50%.

As far as gold is concerned, its value is stable, no matter how many times or between how many people it has been moves. So, I would prefer giving a gold ring. It is a good gift at a moment and in case of financial difficulty, we can sell it to sort out our problems.
