I really enjoy this Blog, but why do Caf, Allicat and now others judge people or keep telling people not to put a new blog on and read old one's, sometimes you can keep your thought to yourselves, there are others on here you know.
Although I am not an active member here (rather new), can I "put on my thoughts"?
I have some experience on another forum, and after you spend some time answering the same questions like "shall I put on abaya outside compound?", "how much is the housing?", "is 3000 SAR good salary?".. etc. .... For the first 100 times you will answer, but for 101st person you probably explode or ignore the question. Who wins in this case? Neither forum, nor the new person who needs information.
The active members have the right not to "keep their thoughts for themselves" in such cases. After all they are the people who provide the information and answer the questions.
And my IMHO, forum needs such a sticky topic on the top of the page, smth like "questions about Saudi Arabia for newcomers".
Thank you, zarvata. You expressed it beautifully!
And I totally agree with your suggestion for a 'FAQ' (frequently asked questions)sticky. It could save a lot of time and effort.
Of course we'd still have people who don't read the FAQ and we'd direct them to the FAQ page and then royal45 could complain that we're 'judging' (which, of course, was a ridiculous statement--how can referring people to an information source be considered judgement?).
Also, you will notice that you don't see royal45 taking the time to provide extensive answers to people asking questions. Until he does, I really don't think he has the right to judge.
Discussion, as always, is welcome
meeoooooowwwww
Okay, I take back my comment that he doesn't make extensive replies!!
Did you notice that there is a Guide section for Saudi Arabia at this time there isn't much information there but everybody is free to write an article about the subjects exposed.
However I would strongly advice to double check the infos you want to publish so as not to misinform future expats!
Yes, but ... we need YOU to participate
who better knows how to settle down in KSA ?
So is the topic for THIS thread "judging"? Oh, oops. I must be in the wrong thread. SORRY....
Thing is, I'm darn hilarious but you may not know that, b/c the written word from a stranger whom you've never heard speak, (so you can''t know the tone or tempo or meaning behind their words), OFTEN "sounds" worse in writing than it does in person.Hard to tell if someone is being sarcastic or funny or ironic OR snotty or just a bit abrupt. Which means when someone tells you that you could have found the info on your own, or with a little research, it can sound harsher than it's intended OR it's coming from someone who has answered it 100 times already or someone who really wants you to be more resourcesful. I've barely been on this site for a few weeks, but I saw that a woman was asking questions about marriage laws in KSA and apparently, her only resource was this site, (and I wondered what kind of decision making is normal for her life) Makes you wonder how she's going to make her choices. Point is, I'm sure things come off differently than they're meant.
So let's cut each other some slack! This is a great resource and a rare one. If we must read into something, read into it with the best of intentions/interpretations. Hard enough with language barriers and grammar issues for second language speakers and nervousness about a new culture and pending move, etc. That's my input for today, and now.... I have to go find the "Right" thread for me...I'm feeling judgmental!!
Well, truly, I thought royal disfused his initial post with his 'meoooooooooow' response, which for some reason I found extremely amusing.
I can't say I'm exactly sure what it meant lol but it seemed to me to be an apology in cat-ese
Of course, I could be wrong because, as spit says,
Hard enough with language barriers and grammar issues for second language speakers and nervousness about a new culture and pending move, etc.
Yes Allie, I would have thought the same thing, EXCEPT I don't speak CATESE! ("Felinian"?)
(For all we know, you were just cussed out!)
Um, Yes, I am kidding...Well, I mean, I'm kidding about the fact that I really don't think she's getting cussed out. But I'm TOTALLY serious about not speaking CATESE.....(Geez, I'm looking forward to being there just so I don't have to announce each time I'm making a joke. This is time consuming....)

i consider myself otherssince i have also given the same advices few times and Why not?
What exactly u would prefer,A post or a Query with "No answer"at all or a "Reference"of an old post regarding the same questions???
There r many similar queries which has been excessively answered by same or different members.Which would only confuse the new comer. There r many smart Expats who initially try to search the desired posts and then initiate with new queries which only helped them further.
No Offense sir and u may find me "Judging u "as well but it is quite weird for posting a topic regarding "your Judgment"when u r having only 12 posts and none of these were used in the helping purpose for any of the Expats.
I hate to be cheeky but u left me no choice, Sir.
LOL, be cheeky!!!! Makes the world go round. I will be sure to post when my shoes hit the hot sand of Damman, come July 1. I will post all my ups, downs, my laughs, my "omgs" etc. And, lets all remember when someone is venturing into "the Kingdom" it is such a new and scary experience, especially when coming from USA, Canada, UK, and other "democratic" countries. Its a whole new way of Life, and all the info that is posted is so valuable. Thanks to all!!!!!
Glad you all like it, I was joking, but now the claws are well out ha ha ha, meow xxxx
Hey Guys,
I am guilty of asking the most FAQ's too but I must say the feedback was very helpful, particuarly compound recommendations because then I was able to google them and email the compound for details and price lists-ok I admitt that they are all full but its still good to know! :-)
lols, some times you have to make some judgement, to assess the gap between actual and expected performance or outcome:)

There is a common idiom in the States: Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
I think this applies regarding information received in this forum!!!!!!!!!

NEW questions or questions that have a new or different slant to them are more than welcome, for sure.
But, as it was expressed, answering the same questions over and over can be frustrating because we can easily see that many of the questions asked are done so before the poster has even looked anywhere in the forum. Many of these questions have been answered dozens of times.
Also some questions are so easily answered, more time is wasted in us reading them than if the poster actually went and did the work themselves. I am thinking of the Indian woman who didn't even look at the embassy website in her own country but made imperious demands that we solve her problems.
We don't mind answering questions we haven't answered, but if someone can't make the effort to FIND the answer we have already given to that question...please excuse us if we get a little catty in our responses.
bottom line. were not judging or anything. were [people] just like the ones asking the questions. we are not selling hotdogs, were helping each other out with things we learnt the hard way. perhaps posting the same thing again an again can be tiresome but redirecting people is a good idea untill we have a good base in the Guides section. im also to blame for being so [procrastinative] regarding the guide updates even though I promised to do so. did I say bottom line?
anyway, chill it people, nobody is judging. im glad you decided you were kidding though, cuz Alli Caf music man and the others are always there for us, so we should appreciate that instead of thinking of us as dictators. were pioneers thats All
Salman.
Well said, yes, we are all pioneers! Trying to help those who are interested in coming here, successfully transitioning into the Saudi culture and becoming a positive part of the Kingdom society.
The Ex-Pat Guide - Maybe if we all take responsibility for a portion of the guide, we can get it published before the fall! We can have a meeting when I get back in July and discuss! Anything for a GET TOGETHER!!!
Love the pic CAF nonz should be happy now
yes to the next meeting
and to anyone who still lurks behind the curtians and thinks were dicators or whatever ya call it. it would be nice to hear from you, you might help me and the others become better at what we do and refine any wrong methods we use.
the door of discussion is always open.
Salman
Yeah, CAF is looking Gorgeous :

I'll continue updating the housing guide with the apt. info that's been discussed in recent days.
Also, if anybody has any additions/corrections to the list of compounds, please let me know so I can edit.
Thanks!
