I am not a restaurant buff.  I like to eat simple and cheap.  I wonder if there is a neighbourhood in Kuwait where I might find the equivalent of an Indian chai shop ... Hot tea, fresh roti, and a really authentic curry, kahari or achaar?  What about Chinese?  Any Chinese quarter where I can eat fresh dumplings and soup?  The same question about Ethiopian.

I have found that the food in these places is usually fresh and cheap, and eating there provides opportunity to meet people and learn about them, their families, their culture.  Maybe someone would like to join me sometime?

You might want to try Habasha Restaurant in Hawally on Qutaiba street for Ethiopian food. I haven't gotten a chance to try it out myself yet but I got the recommendation from justfedup who's from Ethiopia so I'm definitely taking his word for it when he says it's good :)

Good luck!

Thanks a lot ... I'll give that a try.  I did find an excellent Pakistani restaurant (chai shop) in Fahaheel.  It's called Sarghoda Restaurant.  Definitely an authentic experience ... and excellent cheap food.  Downside ... not really a place where women can go.  I have never seen a woman in there and there is no "family" room where mixed company can go.

Check out a Persian place in Meidan Hawally called "Nariz".
In my opinion, its the best place in Kuwait.
Clean, healthy and affordable (3KD pp).
Across from the "American International School of Kuwait"...........
