The internet in KSA : the more you know

Post new topic

Xtrem

As fun as the activities we can do in Riyadh we can still enjoy a "good" internet connection.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
1st let me start by explaining one important thing :
-Ping: is how long it will take until you receive the data
Example: between European countries it's 20  to 50 milliseconds,  between US to EU  it's 120 to 170 milliseconds.

As you can see we are delayed by 80+ms and we haven't even exited the country and that's maybe because the proxy server that's acting as a border guard and inspecting your traffic .
without it the internet would be a blessing

Do you think using a private VPN would help?

No, cause VPN will create a tunnel to another location , that tunnel has to go through the same proxy that's causing the delay. the only thing that can speed the internet in saudi is a better network architecture and capable equipment.
------------------------------
As for why you can browse blocked websites by VPN: because VPN encrypt your data so the saudi proxy wont identify the traffic and won't block it.

Unfortunately, we cannot do anything about it . Bummer!

i used to get around 100-120ms when connecting to game serves in UAE and about 170ms from EU.

Till today, i thought switching between zain, STC or Mobily could solve my lag/delay problem, but now, i think i should stop trying  :unsure

Not sure about Zain , but mobily have better latency than STC , then again mobily had horrible internet issues passed month alot of dis-connectivity , but better we get someone with Mobily to confirm then , just run the command :
" tracert www.expatblog.com " and post the results

Xtrem, this thread is very insightful. Thanks.

To everyone using proxy, I recommend XPN. It does slow you a bit, but it is far more convenient than any other proxies.

The most common is HotSpot Shield, recently they make paid version, more faster and unlimited bandwidth per day.

Proxies won't increase your latency faster , your traffic will still have to go through  the inspection proxy of the ITC.
no matter what you do the delay of 70-80 ms will always be there,  this doesn't affect normal browsing or youtube or anything except for gaming
