Surely you don't expect a consultant to hang out with barbers, do you?  Nothing wrong with barbers, but people tend to make friends among the same socioeconomic class as themselves.

Ultimately there is truth in Trap's words.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with barbers - or any other service oriented profession.  In fact, a consultant is part of the service industry.  With that said, just because barbers are good people it is very likely that the depth of conversation and areas of interest will differ between their socio-economic backgrounds.  The simple fact that the income of a talented consultant is likely going to be exponentially above that of the barber might well eventually make for uncomfortable situations between the two.

From personal experience...  My family comes from a very blue-collar background.   I had several dating relationships that didn't last past the parental introduction phase once the parents found out my mom was a custodial engineer... (Janitor).  Their loss...
