Serious problems with the PM functions

Post new topic

gardener1

As far as I can tell there is no way to title a PM. The only thing one can do is insert a PM  username, compose a message, and hit 'send'. Without a title many people will never bother to read their randomly received PM's.

There is no quote/reply function in PM's.

If a user has repeated back-and-forth PM conversation with another member, there is no way keep track of the conversation, there are just a bunch of boxes with single use posts.

The PM feature is broken. Please fix it.

Hi gardener1,

It's a choice to remove the title on PM and have a discussion thread.

On the top of a thread you will see a box to reply or send a new PM. Did you find it?

Yes, I see the box. It is a box. After a couple of PM's there are several boxes and there is no way to tell which box relates to what part of the conversation.

And because it is not possible to quote a PM reply either, the entire conversation quickly becomes a bunch of -- just boxes.

The PM function doesn't work in it's current configuration. Admit it.

And then please fix it.

Hi gardener1,
We have decided to move from an email type private messaging system to a thread type (like in new smartphones where all the messages/sms from the same person are collated together). What this means is instead of having several individual, subject typed, messages to a single person for example, its all collated as a thread with that particular person.
So if you click on the "Conversation with [person]" box, it will list in latest first by date all the messages you have exchanged between yourself and the 'person', thus making it easier to follow the message in a reverse chronological order.

since all the conversations are listed in chronological order, all the messages are listed together and we believe that quoting from previous messages becomes a bit obsolete in this case.

to summarise, instead of listing each message by subject, the messages have now been grouped by user in a conversation/discussion type listing.

Hope this helps to make this concept a bit clearer.

Cheers
