We will be flying from Dallas and have heard many people say it's much cheaper to fly into cancun, then bus to chetmul, then boat to San Pedro?
Not sure about taking a bus from cancun to chetmul.  Has anyone done that ?

I researched the Cancun alternative for my upcoming Corozal visit and decided aganst it as the dollar savings from LAX vs the added bus travel time, border crossing, and possible overnight stay in PDC didn't make sense for me..just saying.

When I stayed AC...flying into airport and strolling over to Tropic Air for short hop to AC was fast, cheap, and easy. This will get you into AC with plenty of 'Day One' sunshine left to check in, clean up, and decide where to dine on your first night on 'the beautiful island'.

JMHO...Cheers!

I have done this trip many times.  It's a lot easier than it used to be. You can catch an ADO bus from Cancun or playa del carmen (I recommend Playa, airport bus to there, put your bags upstairs in the paid storage and relax for a bit. Bus comes just before midnight, enjoy the beach, have a nice dinner and drinks.)

This bus goes over night, you sleep and don't need to pay for a hotel, very comfortable.  Does not go to chetumal, crosses the border, continues on to Belize City.

Does it save money? The flights to Cancun are generally $300 US cheaper, so you will end up saving $100 or $200 depending on what you do.  I find the factor in taking this trip is really about time, if you only have a week or less then you might feel a bit time crunched.
