Dear Friends and Fellow members of Expat.com,

I have received an offer from a reputed Multinational Trading Firm for US$ 2000 / Month to be based at Nairobi.

The company is providing a bachelor accommodation for a month till the time i can find a apartment. Apart from the salary there are no additional allowances.

My question is -
1. Is the salary good enough for rental accommodation + food + medical etc ??
2. The rental which i will pay for the apartment can be deducted from the net income for income tax purpose ??
3. Any specific expenditure which i should keep in mind and budget for ?

Regards
Ajay

medical is expensive you should negotiate for medical cover
no 2 doesnt make any  sense if someone pays you 2000 usd  your net will be 30% less
making 135000,then you pay your  rent.
salary ok if you live in a bachelors accomodation around 35000
depends on you living

I concur with Deeb you should negotiate for a medical cover and allowances for housing and transport because after tax you will be earning approximately $1400 and just consultation only in a good hospital in Nairobi is $ 25 for outpatient.

All depends on your own standards...
However, accommodation could be quite pricey (especially the most secured ones).
Food shopping, if you go to local markets: OK, if you go to supermarkets; another story.
Health care: you do need a cover granting you access to good hospitals (i.e.: Aga Khan in Nairobi)
Transportation: if you have to commute you'll need a car...
Just my 2 cents
