singing work in malta

Post new topic

Hi all, I would like to know if there is much in the way of work as a singer in Malta considering the current financial climate and how much they generally go out for and if the transition once over there to get work is good. Both myself and my hubby are considering a move and looking for a warmer climate and lower cost of living as well as work prospects. We can work both solo or as a duo so would be interested in knowing what they all go out for. If anyone can shed some light it would be appreiciated thanks

there are loads of singers here all trying to do the same - its very competetive.

and winter is hell for most.... bars etc usually very quiet for a few months and as such not so much money to pay for the singers

Yes I totally agree, the ones who do seem to do well have a theme  (eg comedy and singing mixed in a whole package or a certain type of music or excellent karaoke skills eg great singer and fun personality.

I'd suggest one of you having a less risky role/job and the other trying the circuit, at least until the singer becomes established, successful singers  can seem to work most nights in a network of bars but in Winter Nada.

Yes, totally agree Jay.
A 3 hour set for a normal, UK singer in a local pub pays no more than 40 euro and that's the same if you just set up your equipment (which you need,) and played music all night (karaoke.)
An established Maltese singer will get 80 euro upwards.
