I may be offered a position to work on a new power station project.  I am Type 2 Diabetic.  Is there any restriction on carrying medicine into the country ?  What do I need to do in order to bring medicine into the country?

you can request your doctor to give you the generic name of the medicine you using, they have all the medicines just with the different name, it is usually easy to find doctor who understand full/partial english

Most medicines are available at well stocked pharmacies in Erbil and what they do not stock, pharmacists are more than willing to order for you.  For your own peace of mind, I would suggest bringing in enough for three weeks along with copies of prescription just in case you run into problems (I highly doubt you will).  Kurdish people are really very friendly and will go the extra mile to help you out.  Any taxi driver or company driver would be able to take you to a pharmacy.  Good luck.

Hello,

I have never been asked at the airport coming in about medication. They do x-ray your bags coming in sometimes.

You do not need a prescription here to buy medicine but that said some medications are not available here. Sometimes there are difficulties here with counterfeit drugs or the quality of the medications sold.

If you are carrying needles it is best to have a doctor's note for them. My guess is you take oral medication which should be fine to bring in. Do bring it with you to make sure that you are using what you are accustomed to.

Be careful of your hydration level as many newcomers have dehydrated quickly. Drink a big glass of water upon landing and anytime you have a headache. Because the air is so dry you can easily sweat a lot here and never notice it.

Happy travels.
