Vegetarian protein?

How easy is it to find vegetarian food in Saigon? I realize it's no India, but since it has a Buddhist history, I'm hoping it's not impossible.

One reason I'm asking is because I like to work out and hence need to watch my protein intake. Here in Scandinavia there's plenty of faux-meat products and of course beans and lentils.

What veg protein options are there in Saigon, other than beans/lentils? Is cottage cheese a staple? Protein powder? Tofu?

Thanks!

We have Vegetarian Restaurants. Look for "Nha Hang/ Quang Chay". Chay means Vegetarian

As already mentioned, there are plenty of quan chay restaurants serving vegetarian meals. If you're a strict vegetarian, you'll have to loosen your moral standards: fish sauce, fermented shrimp paste, and other animal-derived ingredients are an integral part of the local cuisine, and you'll most likely have trouble finding places that serve 100% vegetarian food (although they do exist).

Plenty of faux meats, unfortunately very little control as to what goes in them chemical-wise. Unripe jackfruit is by far the healthiest local meat substitute.

Beans and lentils are actually not that common (except for soy), but you can get the dry or canned stuff at many supermarkets.

Cottage cheese is available in specialty stores, expect to pay the same price as back home or more (which, given the prices in Vietnam, is relatively pricey).

Tofu is readily available everywhere, from wet markets to mom and pop shops and large supermarkets.

Protein powder is not hard to find, but you'll be paying for quality. The best source I've found is bodybuilding.vn. All the supplements they sell are authentic Optimum Nutrition products. Great customer service, and they'll even deliver to your house free of charge. I usually get the Hydrowhey, 3.5lbs is around 1.7M.
