Vegetarian / meat substitutes availability

Hi,

I am staying with a family here in Shanghai and primarily eat with them. I am a vegetarian (no meat, no fish but dairy/eggs are ok) but they are not and so I am looking for options for meat substitutes to have for dinner. In the UK I would use things like Quorn and soya products. What kind of things are available here other than tofu (something I don't mind but don't know how to cook, any recipes welcome)?

Obviously I eat vegetables/salad etc. and can prepare dishes just using them but sometimes it is good to have a 'meaty' type thing so that they can have that instead of the meat that they are having and share the side dishes.

TIA.

J.

Hi Jaden,

You can buy Mian jin (面筋)from vegetable market , it's taste like meat but made of wheat flour.
You can cook it like noodles or bake it and eat with salad . It can be fried too and eaten like tea snacks ,
