Hey Manoj! Welcome to Malaysia. I'll try to answer ur q's as best as I can. If ur looking for an accommodation in Langkawi, personally I would use Agoda.com. Its really efficient and so far I have never had any problem with it. But unless you are looking for  super cheap hostels and B&B's, its a little tricky as most are not available online.

As for activities, well probably shopping as Langkawi is a free-duty place, so everything is cheap. for entertainment, Cenang beach is most popular if you are into live music and drinking. Second would be the Tengah Beach.

Apart from that you should check out Mahsuri Tomb, Kilim Karst Geoforest Park, Gunung Raya for excellent views (better if you have a rented car as it a long way up), Herbwalk Langkawi, Laman Padi Langkawi for a planting paddy experience, Atma Alam Batik Village for a batik drawing experience.

And of course, don't forget to have seafood! Yum!

Restaurant Nelayan in Bukit Malut Langkawi
Jai Island Cafe Langkawi
Tom Yam Village in Cenang Beach

Or perhaps just drop by anywhere that is mostly filled with the locals :)

So this is as much I can advise on Langkawi. Good luck!

Hi manoj nayar,

For better visibility and interaction, your post was moved on the Malaysia forum.

When are you travelling to Malaysia? For how long will you be there?

Enjoy your trip,

Hasnaa

You can also hire a motorbike to get around, if you have a driving licence. Langkawi is quite expensive and the duty free items are kitchen and household items, chocolates, alcohol, perfumes, cigarettes, etc. Prices in restaurants are the same or more than KL. Taxi fares are also very high and there are fixed charges from airport to hotels based on their location. It's a holiday destination, which probably explains why.

manoj nayar

Thanks Gravitas. I am not able to do my hotel bookings. None done online. Thanks.

Gravitas

Manoj why can't you get your hotel bookings done?  Its part of travelling to arrange where to stay before you leave. You can't expect others to help you in the way you are suggesting, including making hotel reservations for you. You must know someone in your family who has a credit card? Many hotels don't take any money and you pay locally. But if you don't turn up for the booking, then they will take the price of one night's accommodation or more, depending on the terms and conditions. Booking.com operates like that.

goldencik

Why dont you have a look at Trip Advisor, good coverage of many places in Malaysia

goldencik

Sounds a little suspect to me to be honest. Everything for Langawi is online including bookings, flights, etc

Hey Manoj, when u reach Langkawi, better u rent a car or bike. Usually u can find at jetty & airport. Then go to Pantai Cenai beach, where u can find many hotels at cheaper rates. Please make sure the check-in & check-out times. Also beware of peak time else u will be charge double for hotel & car on holidays. In my case, we rented a nissan grand livina(6 seater) @ RM80 & AB motel @ RM100/2pax.

no need to book in advance, if u r traveling off-peak time.

manoj nayar

In Langkawi, International DL is n't mandatory. can manage with National DL. Many indians expats in malaysia do the same.  :P
