Hi there, we are from Canada thinking of moving with our three kids (10,8 and 5) and our dog.  My husband is going to try to get a job in the oil and gas industry and has a UK passport already.  Do you know what I will need and our kids?  What type of visa and do I apply once we get there or do I need to apply before we come?  How does the schooling work, our kids will be in kindergarten, grade 3 and grade 5 this fall.  Is it hard to rent a place that allows pets?

Thanks Krystal

If your husband is British by birth, your children are entitled to UK citizenship. You need to get them UK passports in addition to their Canadian passports. You need to apply for a spouse visa before you travel. You cannot go to the UK as a tourist and change status in-country. Your dog needs a "pet passport" - I'm not joking!

Bob-666, my husband was not born in the UK.  He was able to get his UK passport from his father who was born there.  We tried to get our kids UK passports and were not able to.  They said it stopped at my husband.  So what kind of visa would our kids need?
Really a pet passport, haha, where do I find that information, do you know?

Hello Krystal, your children need dependants visas or possibly ancestry visas. See https://www.gov.uk/visas-immigration
