Private English lessons - how much to charge?

Post new topic

Hello everybody!

I would like to know how much is normal to charge private English lessons here in Marrakech (per hour)?

Thank you in advance! :)

RWT

It is very difficult as a foreigner to offer English language tutoring in Morocco. Even those with English as their native tongue will be turned down in favour of Moroccans who can read, speak and write in fluent English - they are cheaper hires after all. Unfortunately few do and the advancement of English is having an upwards struggle against the second language, French, despite French not having much of an international presence nowadays, especially in the commercial world.

However to answer your question more directly Maggie87 I do sometimes tutor Moroccans in English, almost all the kids of neighbours, staff and friends.  I accept payment in the form of tagines, couscous and other foods. A great way of sampling different cooking styles (I'm a food blogger) and an ice breaker with my students. Teaching is not a way to earn a living here but great for social interactivity!

RWT,

Thank you for this advice! I appreciate it :)
