Hello every body
Welcome to Norwegian Expat.com.
I open this topic for those who are really interested to spend some years of ex-pat`s life in Norway such as i started at November 2002, and i am still here.
That time as i was moving to Norway guess this blog was not stablish yet(such a pity;-( but because of this and also the main reason that i hate if some one distribute wrong informations (have you ever asked some one for a address and find out that you are lost!) so this is the reason why i like to make an offer to all those students or true expats wishing to move over here,to send you informations you need if you follow only few rules.
1. precisely describing of your goal(study, working, immigration, etc.
2. In case if you know, the date in which your plan (for travelling to Norway or moving over here) starts.
3.For i will send you the updated informations and links from the authorities you can trust and build up your plan base to it because you will need to be sure if these informations or guidelines are actual or 50 years old;-))) so it won`t help but just let you dream and build up your future on the sand hill if you understand how do i mean,so you may save time and resources following my advice since i ask you for nothing it will be wise from you to take it but please do not waste my time & yours to doubt about what you have been told i found out many people just like to tell story i am no story teller i just do it in my private time because i like to help people who are willing to make a better life or achieve other goals than the rest.
Please mention that i am one man with one lap top and few hours a day (after my job is finished i open my expat post box and will answer as much as i can and if it take a little waiting time i hope you accept my apology instead.
I have been living and working in many countries in this world since 1984 by today more than 123 countries but i can give you the very useful and updated informations for these countries:
Germany,Norway, France,Australia,Canada.
If you are having a plan to become an expat in Norway, ask your question and let me know how i may help you.
I wish you all a successful future where ever you are, what ever you do where ever you wish to go.
Friendly regards.
John
PS: I am not a new but an old member so started actively to help few weeks ago.
John an from Zimbabwe my girlfriend is Norwegian she stays in Orsta, and she wants me to join help there apply for a permanent visa so we have researching so that we do this the right way the first time, she is the one who told me about this blog so just wanted to know if yu can help so that it can be an easy process for us
Hello
Your message is a littel confusing for me,so let`s clean up your request if i understood right please than ask me again.
You have a girlfriend who lives in Norway.
Fact:according to Norwegian law) she has to have minimum a working permit which means if is the fact so she must be a kind of specialist in her profession since people from Africa or any where except European citizen must have a special agreement or describing of their professionally and the reason why the employee give her the job (this is the law in Norway and fact has nothing to do with rassisem because in other European countries is this fact hidden or employee pay less and give a damn about the law but is the European foreigner employment policy.
If this is a fact so she has a employment visa, and tell her if she stay here and repeat her employment visa which is at the same time her residence visa, after 5 years she become the permanent residential visa and after 7-8 years she can also request for Norwegian citizenship NO i repeat NO other law exist to define this rule and also No law can deny this all she has to know is that her employee has registered her as a full tax payer in Norwegian tax system.
To control /approve this she has to ask if she has a D-Number as her registration tax number? it is like this
The ID-Tax number(Norwegian social security number is a 11 digit which combines with the birthday numbers for example if some person was born at 16 .May. 2014 this first 6 digit will be 160514 and than + a 5 digit number special for the person in combination they will be 11 digit.But please mention;
All foreigners who apply for working permit and get the tax number they will have NO ID-number they become the D-number unless they work three years in Norway this is because the government and tax office is not sure if the person stay in the country for more than 6 month in one row since they are many tourists or foreigners they come to Norway work only for 5-6 months than leave the country without paying full tax. This will not be accepted for the government to act for visa request priorities.
Now that i explained you all you or your girl friend need to know you may ask me more clear how i may help you further.
Best Regards.
John
Didn't he say his girlfriend is Norwegian? In that case it seems like most of the information you share is not relevant to his situation.
You also can get an FNR well before the three year mark. I got one within weeks when I registered at the tax office as a Nordic citizen. My friends who came as EEA spouses or on work permits got them within a few months.
I recommend looking through this if you want to use your girlfriend as your reason for moving. Her ability to sponsor you depends on several factors which are detailed in the immigration website:

Please give me a reaction to my first email with few questions. I look forward to you advice.
Thank you,

Well, this is really just an answer to John's offert! I appreciate people who realy want to help others, because to move to a new country without any notion is quite difficult. Me too, I was helped and given courage by a member of expats and it was a great help! Thanks a lot and good luck! As soon as I have more experience of what's life like here, I will describe my adventure and offer my help! For today I can say: if you have made your mind up to move to Norway, come for a few days, feel the country, the people and then you will know where you have to go! I did it and it was a wonderful experience! Now it is a challenge that fills me with energy and sunshine!
Best regards ta all! Carmen
Hi there! This is a very sweet offer; thank you John and Carmen! I feel I've looked a lot of info up online, but it never hurts to be super sure.
I am American, will be graduating with a Bachelor's in Computer Science from an American university in about a year, and wish to move to Norway to work after that time. I will not have job experience in the computer industry (my experience is largely from doing projects at home), but I am also not too picky in the first job I get. I know I must have an offer of employment from someplace before I try to get a work visa, and I'm guessing I have to get this offer while remaining outside of Norway. Or maybe I can still be on a tourist visa here while looking for an offer? Regardless, I will likely move to southeast Asia for a year or two to teach English, and then from that point, will be looking to move to Norway (so in about two-ish years from now). My Norwegian is not fluent but I am definitely at least intermediate.
Okay, so my main question is: does this plan sound like it has any major holes in it, or things that I haven't considered? And number two: What industries would you recommend someone of my little experience to get her foot in the door, who would also not mind sponsoring me and waiting for me to come to Norway? So far I am planning to look into the tourism industry at hotels and whatnot, and maybe work on a computer somewhere in there. I'm thinking that teaching in Asia will maybe even give me at least a tiny boon in the tourism industry.
Thank you for all and any help! It's so lovely of you!
Hi Katjek!
I can only tell you from my experience:
Here the Norwegians are very friendly people, specially going northwards ( Iive in Trondheim now). So they are very willing to help foreigners. But I think, if you have the opportunity to spend a good week or fortnight in Norway- more or less in the region where you would like to live - and present CV's to the different hotels yourself, for sure you will find open doors. Even more, if you speak Norwegian already, which is very important here. Although most of the inhabitants speak English fluently, They appreciate very much if you talk their language!
Now in summer, the town is full of tourists from all over the world. -I see many Asian people, So if beforehand you will spend some time in Asia it will help you for Norway! Many tourists come on the famous "hurtigroute", the postway through the fjords from south to north of the country and stay only for the day, but yet, there is always a place to work!
There are many hotel companies, such as RICA Hotels, THON Hotels etc, So good luck for your future!
Thank you so much for your help, Carmen! I will keep all of that in mind. I see you're from Austria originally; what made you decide to move to Norway? Regardless, the best of luck to you, too!
