Driving License requirement to rent/buy a CAR in PR

Post new topic

Hello friends,
I will be moving to Puerto Rico end of July 2010 and I am curious to understand if I could get some feedback from you on the driving license regulation in PR?

I am wondering if I need to procure an International driving license before I set off to PR from India? My present Indian driving license unfortunately is not in English (it's in Hindi). So can i use it to initially rent a car (avis/hertz etc) and later buy one?  Of course as I will be working in PR, I shall apply for a local license eventually.

I would really appreciate your responses.

Thanks.

I would take an international license. You could of course contact Avis, Herz or another large rental company but still, if you can get an international license, do it.

Within six months from your arrival you will need to get a PR license. If youre staying for a limited time (as an expat) I would recommend to take the exam and keep your Indian license. It's not too difficult to pass the test. :)

Thanks alot Gary. I am in the process of procuring an International License..

I will be working there, so Yes will have to get in line with the local process once I am there.

Greatly appreciate your response! :-)
