Hi,

We will be moving to malta shortly work reasons my son is due to start his final year of compulsary school in September while the timing isn't ideal it can't be helped. We are native British living in Spain for 10 years so my son is fluent in English and Spanish and has been taught in the Spanish state school system . I'm sure he would pick up Maltese but with him only having a year I doubt it may be enough to pass an o level in it. Will he have to pass Maltese o level to go onto further education or are there any exceptions made in cases like these?

No it's not, well certainly wasn't...I do know, that last year they made it compulsory for foreign medical students to have a certificate in basic Maltese...I don't know if other courses will follow suit?
There are lots of ex-pat children doing higher education that simply haven't been here long enough to get Maltese.
