We are currently under construction at the Shores. I have worked out most budgetary items for monthly expenses and for the move down. What I need to know is the computer hook-up and the T.V situation. With who? and how much? Is a lap top with a hard drive storage better than the whole tower and screen thing. Also any problems with the different vendors ie: reliability, speed, reception etc. Any info will help.

Hi and welcome to Expat.com, ccsenator :)
Did you have a look at previous topics to see if the information you require is not already there?
Cheers

A friend of mine is living in Consejo Shores. If you give me your email-adress, I'll ask him, if he could give you some answers.

For most people that are out of the area cable services use Satellite TV.  I personally use Shaw Direct/StarChoice from Canada.  I brought my own dish and equipment down with me and set up my account in Canada. It save a lot as the gray market for Direct TV and StarChoice is very expensive in Belize.  When bringing you own dish and receivers you must get a permit from the Utilities Dept. $150.00 BZD easy to get. So for two receivers I'm paying $60.00/mth CDN

Again, if you can not get DSL from BTL you have a couple of choices, Satellite internet which is what I use, it is again a Canadian company the same as in the USA.  I set up my own account but bought everything in Belize it cost $3500.00 BZD for the equipment and installation.  With the plan I choose I pay $89.00/mth CDN

There is another choice available in Consejo, but I believe it is more expensive, it's done via radio towers.

What Size Dish and was there a Duty to pay on it. I know the duty on electronics is 107% I found that out this vacation

For StarChoice/ShawDirect you must use the 75E dish with quad LNB, I bought it on Ebay for $129.00 brand new and two receivers for $90.00.  The duty was not all that much, I think it was $132.00 BZD, plus the permit from Utilities for $150.00.

Hello we are virtually neighbours, not sure about TV or internet on the shores but I can tell you that a laptop is much better for ease of transportation, also really depends on what you want to use it for.
When are you getting here.
