Advice on working from Malaysia

Dear All,

I am considering moving to Malaysia to be in Asia for work and lifestyle reasons.

I am posting on here for advice with regard to how I can set-up to work from in and from Malaysia.

My situation is that I work remotely from my home in Austria for a US firm. I am not an employee as there is no company in Austria (of the US firm) to employ me so I have a contract and bill through my own business. All my income comes from the US.

The idea is to continue this set-up but from Malaysia.

If anyone has any knowledge of ideas how I should go about setting this up, or who I could talk to discuss the options, it would be great to hear.

Thanks,

Stephen

I know several people in similar situations. Foreigners need some kind of permit to reside in Malaysia. It sounds like to get that you would either have to be on the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme or set up a company here and as a Director, obtain a work permit.

Establishing a Labuan company is probably the most suitable incorporation route, as you don't have earnings in Malaysian Ringgit.

If you contact www.simplyoffshore.com, you can find details and its possible to walk you through the Labuan  process and requirements.

Otherwise, the requirements for MM2H can be found under "Home":

There are some rules about earnings from e-commerce, should that be applicable:
