As I read many blogs , I understand the salary fixation differs even among the similar cadre. Indian salry scale is similar and changes according to the promotion. But it seems the sacle  for asst professor varies - In Riyad it is one in Jizan it is different

WHy there is no uniform pattern

MisterStretch

Some unis are government, others are private, others are mixed.

Cost of living in Jizan is less than in Jeddah, salaries are lower.

A university in the middle of the desert is going to offer less than a university in Riyadh.  (Strange reasoning here, I would think the less-desired post would demand a higher salary.)

How much money is being siphoned into pockets and profits adds a little variable, as well.

Quality institutions have a tendency to pay more...because they want more in terms of experience and ability of instructors.

Same old, same old.  This isn't only true in the KSA.

Uniform salaries are generally found in countries of more socialistic political structure.

Hello Sir,

I am thinking about getting a job in Saudi as Asst professor in Al Faisal University, Riyadh. Is it true that if you are an Indian Passport holder you are paid less, and if you hold western passport you get paid more. Well how many more times are they paid?
Can a westerner with a spouse from developing country stay in a awestern compound?
Are there Indian compunds?
Do women / are women allowed to work as teachers / faculty in Saudi Universities?
Are there good bus facilities?
I will very much appreciate your response.
Thanks
Ram

Hello,
I am also considering AL Faisal.
Which college are you looking at? Whats the average salary for Asst Prof in COllege of Medicine?
Thanks

DrProf

Unless you have degress from western coutnries you may not even get a job at Al Faisal.
Al Faisal is one of the top universities in Saudi arabia and in the middle east. They have very high standards, you need a strong publication record in leading international journals for the position of Asst Prof.
If you apply for lecturers, I dont know what their criteria would be.

As regards to salary,
In India if you are paid 40,000 rupees per month, would you not be happy if you are paid say Rs, 2. lakhs for this job?
On the otherhand, someone from the USA who is already paid say USD 80,000 per year would be paid about USD 120000 per year.
So, you are paid 5 times more compared to your Indian salary.
On the otherahand, an american is paid only 50% more.

So, an Indian is at an advantage. Why bother american salary.
The University hires an american, because they want him. Why do you think he would come to work in Saudi for a salary that is equivalent to INR 200000 per month?
