Phu My Hung has HIV/AIDS! That will get the old hens clucking.

Any doctor licenced to do marriage tests. There are clinics for testing in certain (rough) areas of the city.

He should tell his infected partner. It is illegal in VN to have sex when infected with HIV/AIDS. Some men AND women already in jail for spreading it around. HIV/AIDS is a reportable disease in VietNam - so 'anonymous' testing is illegal.

Your friend might also need counselling.

I think they OP just wants to test whether they have it or not....

Which is a good deed anyways, knowing is better than sexing blind

he is afraid after having a casual encounter in HCMC. nothing of the sort Jaitch has remarked above. Big Tex is this place safe to go for an expat. Is it operated by a local or a NGO

Thailand and VietNam are HIV/AIDS hot spots and sex education in VN is minimal.

Also, 46% of married men, according to a survey done 2 years ago, have had post marital sex with prostitutes - and the majority went bareback.

Its just a small lab with a COBAS-6000 machine upstairs...they were nice enough to let me go and look at all their cool lab equipment...Im a science nerd..No worries...just go in and check the box on the paper for HIV test, pay $6,  come back in 2 hrs

Great so what the fuck does that have to do with the OP wanting to go to a clinic?

Wow - this forum is obviously not the place to come for advice without lectures and judgement.

I planned to ask something myself, but I think I will go elsewhere.

BIG TEX:   Any idea if this clinic is open on Saturdays.  Thanks

Big-Tex

Hypothetically speaking, imagine your friend caught the disease.

For the first 3 months or so, the disease would be undetectable in his blood.

This is referred to as the window period.

So the only way to get accurately tested is to wait 3 months then visit a clinic.

Of course in the meantime, it would be advisable for your friend to stay away from sex altogether until then.

This will ensure a 100% accurate and certain result when he does go to be tested.

And I agree with the above poster.

The lack of sex education in Vietnam is a serious issue.

It appears to be a Taboo subject.

Big-Tex

Think its open til 12:oo on Saturday

Big-Tex

You have a way of evaluating hasty and incomplete!

This is completely inaccurate...you can have symptoms within 10days and get an accurate test result during the first onset of an HIV infection, unfortunately the blood tests used test for antibodies or antigens, not the HIV virus itself. The virus will reproduce quickly, your WBC will attack it and it will go into a dormant stage....

So yes you can get an accurate test result within the first 1-3 weeks, BUT.......the best way to test is to test at 3mo when your body has built up enough antibodies for detection.....

janin

Big Tex:    Thanks for your posts.   Any idea if the tests done at Phu my Centre are based on technologies/techniques which can detect infection at what period i.e. 4 weeks or later at three months.

Big-Tex

The only place you are going to be able to get an accurate test for HIV virus is at the CDC or high priced research institutes that will be able to tell within 10 days......all other tests test for antibodies/antigens which are only present in a detectable amount after 3mo.

Short answer: Have to wait 3mo for test at any place that isn't primarily focused on HIV itself.

@ Big Tex.       I think this bit of information is relevant.

Big Tex why would you insult an Ex-Pat from adding a bit of Information?  Because it does not agree with your
off topic rules?  It is revenant information and and a part of this conversation and you make people on this forum
afraid to speak. You did not know this Information. Please do not be INSULTING to others on this site save it for
the Low Life Bar where foul mouth people hang out Drink beer get pissed and smoke like pigs living in shit.

Thanks for your two cents Gramps, but when you read other posts and see how Jaitch likes to lecture others, maybe you'll see why I go off on "him".

Please check the thread again, the OP was looking for some info, NOT a lecture about choices in life....what was the title of this thread again?

Eccy

When I was sick in DaNang. I had blood work drawn looking for a parasite, and they tested for HIV and the results were on my blood work? Did not need to present my Passport. But don't know about HCMC good luck

saigonmonkey

Most hospitals and clinics are not going to provide services to anyone without some form of ID. The results will be kept confidential anyway. I would be more worried about my employer or my insurance company finding out, and in order to ensure that didn't happen, I would pay for the testing with cash.
