04/17/23 @James hi James, I am holding diplomatic passport from Afghanistan right now I am in Iran I can fly via Qatar-Brazil to Bolivia but I am not sure if I can enter Bolivia I was wondering if I can file asylum in Brazil at the airport and I am afraid if they refuse what would happen to me if they deport me back to Afghanistan. Any guidance please

Good morning. James and Texanbrazil are no longer with us; I will try to respond to your question.

According to the most recent Brazilian Visa exhibit (March 24, 2023), all persons traveling on Afghan passports, including diplomatic passports, must have a Brazilian visa to enter Brazil. Here's the exhibit:

To be safe, you should consider contacting the Brazilian Embassy in Teheran before you travel:

If you face a well-founded fear of persecution in Afghanistan, the Brazilian authorities probably will not return you to Afghanistan; however, if you currently have been granted asylum in Iran, they may decide to return you there.

@abthree thank you very much for your reply, Brazilian embassy in Tehran is very much occupied and I don’t see any reasonable ways to discuss the issue directly with the embassy.

i was deputy minister for two ministries and for sure if I am found by the taliban I will be executed. I am living in Iran with a visit visa which will expire soon. I know you cannot encourage me to enter brazil without a visa but thanks a lot for the information provided.

cheers,

abthree

04/17/23 @FZ1403.  I'm at the end of my knowledge, and hesitate to offer any further advice based on a guess, for fear of suggesting something that makes your situation even worse.  I understand your plight, and hope that the Brazilian authorities will, as well.  I wish you well.

08/01/23 can i seek asylum at Brazil airport on Arrival ?
-@scottwalker844

Good afternoon. Yes, you can. Upon making the request to the Federal Police, an applicant will be held in government-provided lodgings and given the opportunity to prove that s/he qualifies for asylum under Brazilian law by meeting the requirements of the 1951 Convention Related to the Status of Refugees and related agreements. The test is that the applicant can demonstrate a "well-founded fear of persecution based on his or her race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group."

Poverty or lack of economic opportunity in the home country do not qualify as grounds for asylum in Brazil. Applicants who do not qualify for asylum will be repatriated to their countries of origin.

You can.  Ask to speak with the Federal Police, and make your request to them.
