How can a US citizen aquire a French credit card?

NorCalWineaux

Help!  I found out the hard way that ALL my US credit cards are no good on the "A" toll roads.  I tried every card I had in the toll booth but nothing worked...I actually had to back out and sneak around the gate!

I know it's a necropost but you never know if it could help anyone someday.
In the last few years, in France at least, you can purchase standard or premium prepaid credit cards for short term use or longer. Using Visa or Mastercard networks and system, they'll let you cope with small expenses.
As they're not easily refundable, make sure you don't buy one too big for your needs. They range from 20€ up to 500€ max. So make sure to cash out everything left on the lasts days of your sojourn.
For long term or definitive expats, opening a local bank account is a good idea.
