Vegetarian in Brussels, Belgium

Post new topic

sharonlinda

I'm just getting into this blogging thing, but I've been into vegetarian food for a long time now. Hence my blog: Brussels Sprout, writing up the vegetarian and vegetarian-friendly scene in Brussels, Belgium. It's no small challenge here, since most restauranteurs seem to be under the impression that as long as the meat isn't the primary thing on your plate, the dish qualifies as vegetarian. Bacon shows up on salads way more often than I wish, and I've just trained myself to ask waiters "is it vegetarian?" after everything I order. No matter what.

That said, you can eat damn well here, even as a veggie, and I've enjoyed that part of my three years in this funny little country. You can see my blog at http://bxlsprout.blogspot.com. Enjoy! and I look forward to reading yours!

Belgian food isn't too vegetarian friendly, I've found, although most of the individual staples - waffles, fries (careful what they are fried in), beer and chocolate - are all safe, and tasty!

I've found a lot of veggie-friendly Asian restaurants in town, and have gotten particularly into Thai food lately. Italian is also often a safe bet. And there are a few specifically vegetarian restaurants that are very yummy indeed.
