I went to the airport in Santiago today. They gave me a copy of the fees. This is not hear say. I got the fees right from the document from the Dominican immigration office. today date is June 14, 2015.
Those correct fees have been posted here numerous times in the past 6 months
Bob K
Oh and dennis welcome to the forum
Bob K
Thanks Bob, I somehow was reading old post I guess. After I wrote my post I then saw that you are right. The new fees were already posted. I am leaving on Friday going back to Miami. I fall into the 4000 pesos. If we don't already pay enough in this country. To stay over 30 days and have to pay 4000 pesos doesn't seem fair. When I come back the roads, electric going out all the time, no water sometimes will still be the same. We all complain but most of us still return.

Hi Dennis. We all pick the horse we ride on. Sometimes the gaits ate uncomfortable, most of the time just fine. If he stumbles or picks up a stone in his hoof, we don't shoot it, we just carry on. Things in life are like that horse, but we keep mounting up again. Keep riding & you will never get bored. However changing horses can be an adventure too. The pluses are enough to keep riding. Never let the horse get the bit in his teeth, it then can be a really horrible ride. The price of oats & hay is the price we pay for the ride. Yeah, the power & roads. water & such suck, they are the oats & hay. Have fun & laugh a lot, it is the path to life in the DR.
dennis you could avoid the fees if you are here a lot then get your residency. Of course that costs a lot too

Its relative gentlemen! Overstay in the USA and what happens? Overstay in Costa Rica what happens? Etc etc.
Residencia here is relatively cheap as well but a pain in the you know what. Get over it, no one has the right to come to another country and just stay.
And nothing here is perfect, that is what makes it the adventure......
You are exactly correct, no one has the right to go to another country and just stay. But 30 days is ridiculous. In the United States a tourist can stay up to 6 months. In the Dominican Republic just 30 days. It is not really that the Dominican government cares about how long that you stay. It is all about the money. Foreigners from other countries put money into the Dominican economy. Making the time longer for a tourist to be able to stay would only help the economy, not hurt it.
Dennis R.
Dennis I do not disagree with you honey. I agree there is plenty of opportunity for this gov't to fix this issue. They can easily create several categories of "tourist visas" including a 6 month one. But for now the rules are what they are and the policy is we don't encourage anyone to break them......
yes, but the Dominican government encourages foreigners to not follow the rules. That is why it is just about the money. In the United States you get locked up in detention and sent back to the country of origin in shackles on an airplane filled with others who overstayed their visa. Here, in the Dominican Republic one can stay 10 years if you don't mind paying 70,000 pesos. I don't like breaking the rules either but knowing the consequences of only having to give the Dominican government what they want in the first place, which is pesos. I am following the rules, not breaking them.
Dennis R.
With the new law passed if you are here longer than your visa and you run into any trouble or run afoul of some politico they will now (as of tomorrow) will be able to deport you with NO questions asked and no recourse. Again a push to residency.
And to add in the EU countries you are not allowed to stay more than 90 days with out a special visa. This does not matter how many countries you are in or borders you cross...total is 90 days.
I do see in the not too distant future a 30 day and a 6 month tourist visa.
BObK
Bob, where can I find all of the changes to the visa requirements for the Dominican republic? Is there a Dominican immigration website? Thank you
Dennis R.
There is web site but I would have to Google it
Bob K
Well now!
Mucho gracias Dennis!
Holy poop!
It would appear they want more expats here
to help clean up the corruption.
Hello to everyone,
sorry if i introduce myself so fast and if my english is not good but i try
I will be in Las Terrenas the next week for until the middle of July, i have an Idea to travel there for 2-3 years at the end of 2014... i speaked with embassy and other people and it seems becamed very difficult to have a residence there.
I was thinking to let my home residence in Italy and to stay there to live and pay the fine... it would not be a problem.. but i heard that laws are changed and if they "catch" you, they put you out of RD immediately.
It's there no another possibility?
Manny
Welcome Manny, at the moment the only options are tourist visa or residency. I expect that will change but we don't know when.....
I do not believe the gov't is going to go after tourists who come and stay for longer periods. I believe they will go after those who get "caught" for something, maybe working illegally, or whatever. IF you are here, have an income, keep yourself out of trouble you are not likely to have any problems.
Remember this is my opinion and not a guarantee of anything! You choose and take your chances.
Hola Manny!
Welcome!
Overstay fines are "affordable" depending on how long you stay
and how rich you are. As far as the "legalities" go, I personally
don't see a problem, as long as you behave yourself.
Whoever else you talk to will have a different opinion.
Good luck.
Go see the Dom. Embassy in Italy.
Both Tomas and Planner are correct. You should be fine for the time being just paying the overstay fine.
From you note it only sounds like you will be here for less than a month (if I am reading it correctly) so no problem at all in that case as your tourist visa will cover you on this trip.
Bob K
Thank you very much for your answers!!
Bob, this time i will come there for 3 weeks because i need to search a house or a flat in Las Terrenas, so i will do vacation but not only
I'm looking since 3 month on internet but you only find real estates who sell or rent homes, i want to go there and speak with people directly.
Anyway i think i will left my residencia in Italy and slowly take informations when i'm there about "becoming dominicano"
Good plan best way to find a place to rent is "boots on the ground".... you will have lots of options!
A good idea also to come for a couple of months before making any long term plans. Make sure it is "right" for you before going through the process and expense of getting your Dominican Residency.
Bob K
Manny, good idea.
Good luck with your search.
Don't forget house prices here are usually
negotiable from 15 to 50 percent.
As of June 17/2015.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION! Regarding the question of the changes to the visitor or tourist visas. Your initial visa when you enter the country is valid for 3 months. Before the 90th day, just go to the airport immigration office and pay for a renewal. Basically the same as any other country I have ever been to. So snowbirds, no worries. All is well and good. Leon Alter
This starts tomorrow apparently. Leon got this
info directly from talking to the Minister of Immigration.
where did this come from? I've seen nothing official on this. I really would want to verify this.
Thanks Tomas.
Just read it Planner.
It is quite evident.
You do know Leon?
From North Shore Crimestoppers.
I am very confident in his reports.
Yes I noticed that on Leon's FB page today. I know him well and has never not spoken the truth. However I have not seen this in print anywhere so until I do I will still have doubts that there is any tourist visa beyond 30 days.
A renewable 90 day visa would be great.
Bob K
Have you found this on any government web site or any newspaper report???
Bob K
Also what will the cost be? Is there still going to be a 30 day visa for $10 and then maybe $30 for the 90 day??? And what computer system are they going to track what visa you have??? Or just a 90 day now???
Bob K
Nope learned long time ago not to always trust what you hear even if from a good source.
Bob K
Sad news from you Bob.
"never not spoken the truth", your words?????
You know, I'm kinda glad I don't know you personally Bob.
Not sure of your point here Tomas.
I have had people tell me things that I know they believe is the truth but for some reason they got it wrong. All I am asking for is for confirmation from ANOTHER reliable source. It is called doing your Due diligence before passing on information
With your hard attitude maybe it is a good thing you don't know me personally
