Hi,

I brought my car from Dubai 2 years ago and want to sell it now, someone told me that I can't sell it before passing three years!!! Is this true ? Unfortunately I don't have a time during working hours to go to traffic department to check out. Please advise if somebody have an idea about this.

Thanks

Hello sbassams

Hope that soon enough some members will be able to help you out ;)

If by any chance you happen to have the info first, it would be great if you could share it with us here ;)

Have a Nice Weekend :)

Of course that's not true, who told you that?  Just think logically, if you buy something from any type of shop, can anybody force you to keep or use that time, or to not sell it on?

Trapezious,

Your logic is correct, but I have seen a lot of cases including Pakistan where Non Resident Pakistani could import a vehicle on a 'Transfer of Residence' scheme by paying concessionary duties and taxes  ( scheme now abandoned) , and one was not allowed to sell the vehicle for 3 years.

These scheme are put in place to discourage traders to misuse the facility and benefit only the qualified expats.

I have noticed some sports models and Japanese and American SUVs being sold in UAE at prices substantially lower than Saudi and there is a possibility that such rule is being implemented to discourage traders and protect local auto dealers by only allowing one off legitimate expats.

So the only way to be sure is by confirming with authorities. :)

Where do you hear these things from? It is so far from true. You can sell your car anytime you want only that it should have a valid MVPI.

live.ali

It is true. This obviously applies to cars that are imported the way the OP mentioned. No such restriction for a car bought locally obviously.

Ehtesham

It is done to discourage locals to import cars under their names and later re-sell it in the market. But in your case try to get the service of car dealers, perhaps they can help you.

Hello friends Live.ali , Ehtesham and Simpleaddo,

The important point we are trying to figure out is "Is there a such a law in force in Saudi Arabia?"

Yes, it is a law. No reselling within 3 years for a car bought privately by an expat from abroad.
