Looking for politically liberal country with quality health care.

Being a very liberal (retired and single) individual, I have become increasingly frustrated with the extremist conservative movement in America and am seriously considering relocating to a progressive European country. Although England is probably not as liberal as I would prefer, it's my understanding that they have a higher quality health care system (which is a high priority to me) than most (all?) of the other European countries, and of course, language should not be an issue. My current rent is about $1000 (U.S.) a month and, among other concerns, I would like to know if I could find an apartment with a comparable rent in/near London or another city with a comparable health care system.

I suggest that you read through the many posts on this section of the forum for information

I am not sure but I think that, as a retiree from another country you may have to have your own medical insurance cover.

Britain’s healthcare has been lauded as the best out of 11 of the world’s wealthiest countries, following a far-reaching study by a US-based foundation.

Hello Whitecrow,
Unless you are a citizen of the European Union, you will need a visa to live in Europe. You need to identify which countries have a retirement visa and what the requirements are - they will all be different. The UK does not have a retirement visa so that country can be struck off your list (unless you are a multi-millionaire and can qualify for an investment visa).

Thanks to all that replied to my posting. Obviously, i have a lot more research that I need to do. And no, Bob-666, I am far from being a "1-percenter"!! I would assume, however, that if I was to marry an English resident, that I wouldn't need a visa?

I believe you do require a visa. You can check by following the link:

Hello Whitecrow,

"Liberal country with quality Health care." is a relative , comparative and debatable term.

I understand as a retired gentleman you wish to spend time in a peaceful place which will take care of your old age issues which will come with time.

I believe you need to see first where you may legally acquire immigration, the next issue will be if your pension and savings will be sufficient which I believe is a lot more than the rent you pay in US.

I have seen a  lot of Americans in Dubai, Thailand, Vietnam and Malta  and i suggest you consider them all.

Thanks for your response. Although I understand that Bangkok has an excellent and very moderately priced medical system, I really prefer living in a location with a temperate climate. Guess the old adage that older people prefer warmer climes doesn't apply to me. Of course, when I say temperate, I mean moderately temperate.
